Steve Khan gained his initial reputation as a fusion guitarist, so this session was a revelation to many when it was released. A rather introspective set of melodic music, the program is highlighted by an 18-and-a-half-minute, nine-song Thelonious Monk medley that is performed solo. Khan is actually the only performer throughout the date, although he uses overdubbing on some cuts ("In a Silent Way" has eight guitars).

Daniel Balavoine (5 February 1952 – 14 January 1986) was a French singer and songwriter. He was hugely popular in the French-speaking world, and inspired many singers in the 1980s, such as Jean-Jacques Goldman, and Michel Berger, his closest friend. He took part in French political life, and is known for a 1980 televised verbal confrontation with François Mitterrand. In the French music-business, Balavoine earned his own spot with both his acute and powerful voice and his lyrics, full of sadness and revolt. He was emphatic, his songs are for a most valuable part talking about despair, pain, death. Hope was under unclaimed, still present anyway….

Russian-born Viktoria Mullova is a violinist primarily known for her great virtuosity and a wide-ranging repertory that includes many crossover pieces.

For Steve Khan's first solo release in nearly ten years, 2006's The Green Field, the guitarist assembled quite a supporting cast. Once more, Khan has called upon his old pals John Patitucci on bass and Jack DeJohnette on drums, with percussionist Manolo Badrena rounding out the cast.Steve Khan's The Green Field is highly recommended to fans of expertly played latin tinged progressive jazz.

Ronnie Earl and the Broadcasters and Stony Plain Records recently released the Hope Radio Sessions on DVD. Recorded at Wellspring Sound in Acton on April 21 and 22, 2007, the studio setting is responsible for an excellent sound quality - an aspect that often suffers in live recordings.
The close and intimate setting provides viewers the ability to feel part of the audience of friends and acquaintances present during the making of the Hope Radio CD, which is one of the Broadcasters best live releases to date……..
