During his comeback years (1959-62) after a decade mostly off the scene, tenor saxophonist Ike Quebec recorded frequently for Blue Note. He started off with a session aimed at the 45 jukebox market and, although he eventually made a few full-length albums for the label, Quebec cut four 45 dates over a two-and-a-half-year period. This double-disc set has all of the jukebox sessions. Most of the 26 selections clock in between four and seven minutes and have long melody statements in addition to concise and soulful solos. Quebec, who was in consistently prime form during his last period, is joined by groups featuring either Skeeter Best or Willie Jones on guitar and Edwin Swanston, Sir Charles Thompson, or Earl Van Dyke on organ. Fun, loose and highly enjoyable music.

Featuring between 7 to 12 musicians playing guitars, drums, fiddle, trumpet, banjo, washboard, upright bass, gong, mandolin, accordion, harmonicas, saxophone, tuba, sousaphone and even empty bottles & tie racks to build their unique brand of Bourbon Soaked Gypsy Blues Bop’n’Stroll… "With their lurching sea shanties, debauched murder ballads, messed-up tangos and whiskey-soaked gypsy stomps, some reckon they’re from the same stable of stallions as Tom Waits and Nick Cave; others point out the last gang in town swagger of The Clash and the hellbound blues that John Lee Hooker first dragged out of the swamp".

Album released in Spain in 1970 by Columbia Decca Phase 4 Stereo. This recording is a true spectacle performed by jazz trumpeter Kenny Baker English (1921-1999) and accompanied by the orchestra of the famed British director Roland Shaw. Of his vast and splendid career can mention that Baker performed alongside world-class artists as Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Tony Bennett and even The Beatles, as well as several soundtracks of the films of James Bond. From him it was said that 'he was for jazz what the Rolling Stones to rock'. His demise marked the end of an era of global trumpeters, who were able to reach the virtuosity on the trumpet, making a brilliant capacity for imagination and expression, we have not come to enjoy since.

Christmas in Vienna is almost like a live Three Tenors album, only with Diana Ross taking the place of Luciano Pavarotti. That alone makes for quite a change, since Ross' style of singing is decidedly different from Pavarotti's, but she acquits herself well. Of course, it helps that she is supported by a wonderful assembly of musicians, from Jose Carreras and Placido Domingo to producer Michel Glotz and arrangers Lalo Schifrin…

An orrery is a device mimicking the motion of heavenly bodies used in astronomy and astrology. "Nine Odes to Oblivion" is entirely instrumental and is the only release by this project. Nine Odes to Oblivion consists basically of one track that is divided into nine sections. Between black metallish tracks reside shorter, beautiful acoustic interludes, although one of these shorter tracks is a magical piece containing only synth. This variation between black metal and calmer moments makes sure that Nine Odes to Oblivion is not a numbing experience.

Metal Blade Records has released "Just Highs No Lows (12 Years Of Persistence)", a two-disc "best-of" collection from German melodic metallers BRAINSTORM.
