Gorod's newest album is a monster of an EP. With only 5 tracks the band manages to fill it with countless new musical ideas and new takes on old songs. The album consists of a re-recorded version of 'Earth Pus', a acoustic rendition of Blackout, a cover of 'Textures' by Cynic, another acoustic rendition of 'Earth Pus', and finally the masterpiece of the album, a new song titled after the album. The band leaves some of its death metal influences in favor of a more progressive sound.

Liszt composed 15 Hungarian Rhapsodies between 1851 and 1855 and another five works between 1879 and 1866. Verdi's Aida was commissioned by the Viceroy of Egypt for the celebrations for the opening of the Suez Canal in 1870. The Slavonic Dances are a cycle of eight dances of folk-dance character which Dvorak first wrote for piano duet, then published in his own orchestral version. Mendelssohn's Italian Symphony enchants the listener by means of its cheerfulness and the recollection of the Italian sun.

Grab This! finds tenor Johnny Griffin in a soul-jazz mood, which is greatly aided by the organ of Paul Bryant. They are joined by guitarist Joe Pass, bassist Jimmy Bond, and drummer Doug Sides for nice workouts on several originals and a couple of standards. The band seems confident and relaxed throughout this recording, injecting everything it touches with a healthy dose of the blues.

Morphine's discography was cut tragically short, but with Rykodisc holding the keys to the vaults, and with a heck of a lot of unissued material (at least 60 tracks), the label released a second compilation of Morphine B-sides to mark the ten-year anniversary of the unexpected death of singer/slide bassist Mark Sandman. Like 1997's B-Sides & Otherwise, At Your Service is more abstract and challenging than the other studio releases available. Many of the songs here take a more free-form approach, potentially because they were never completely finished. Even so, the songs sound great, and with 35 previously unreleased songs, there's a lot to sort through and a lot to like.

This is a magnificent recital captured in beautifully recorded 5.1 surround sound. My benchmark in this repertoire has always been Rubinstein. Now we have Zimmerman who knows how to express the poetry, fire and soul in this music with self-effacing, consummate virtuosity. The program includes the 4 Ballades, the wonderful Fantasie in f# minor and the great f-minor Barcarolle, among others. I haven't listened to the Schubert yet, but my expectations are high. If you love Chopin, buy this DVD and immerse yourself in this gorgeous music. Krystian Zimerman’s peerless artistry, filmed in 1987 by director Humphrey Burton.
