Massive Attack had wanted to work with Cocteau Twins' vocalist Elizabeth Fraser since the early '90s, and, after years of wrong-time, wrong-place scenarios, they finally had their chance on 1998's Mezzanine. Although Fraser co-wrote three of the album's 11 tracks and had a far more interesting impact on "Group Four," it was the sweetness of "Teardrop" that allowed the song the most commercial success. The single, released in May 1998, gave Massive Attack their first-ever Top Ten hit in the U.K. and gave Cocteau Twins' fans a chance to nearly clearly hear Frazer's lyrics…

This previously issued material (released on a single CD by Music Masters) features the Duke Ellington Orchestra during a very busy era. The veteran musicians were getting older but their very individual voices were still powerful, and Ellington was far from running out of gas at this point.

Mai Kuraki (born October 28, 1982 as Mai Aono is a Japanese pop and R&B singer-songwriter and producer from Funabashi, Chiba. Kuraki debuted in 1999 with the single, "Love, Day After Tomorrow". In 2000, she released her debut album, Delicious Way, which debuted at number-one and sold over 2,210,000 copies in its first week. Kuraki is one of a few female artists in Japan to have their first four studio albums to debut at top of the Oricon album chart.

The Emerson Quartet's recordings of the late Beethoven string quartets from 1994 and 1995 are by no means bad or even poor performances. The Emerson is clearly a superb quartet, arguably the best America has ever produced, with a strong tone, coherent intonation, and a cogent ensemble. No matter how difficult Beethoven's writing becomes – and in the late quartets, Beethoven's writing can become immensely difficult – the Emerson rarely shows any trace of effort or strain, but rather sails through the music with its virtuoso technique. But a virtuoso technique is the only basic requirement for playing Beethoven's late quartets. What the late quartets demand is not just virtuosity but intellectual, emotional, and spiritual depth. And while the Emerson surely has the intellectual depth and possibly the emotional depth, it certainly lacks the spiritual depth..
