20-Time GRAMMY® winner Chick Corea returns with his highly anticipated new band. The Vigil also features guest appearances by Stanley Clarke and Ravi Coltrane. A new release by Chick Corea is an event not to be overlooked. When it also features Tim Garland then the interest is doubled for those of us in the north east who have a special affection for Tim due to his long association with the area (One time Director of Music at Newcastle Uni, various collaborations with Northern Sinfonia and the delightful quirkiness of living in a lighthouse at Whitley Bay) and, of course, his instrumental and compositional skills.

Esoteric are pleased to continue their series of CD reissues of the catalogue of Finnish Progressive group Wigwam with their classic 1971 double album Fairyport, the bands third LP. Formed in Helsinki in 1969, the band featured the talents of British Keyboard player and vocalist JIM Pembroke, Jukka Gustavson (keyboards, vocals), Pekka Pohjola (bass, violin, keyboards) and Ronnie Osterberg (drums). Released in Finland on the Love Records imprint, the album was a superb work which demonstrated the diversity of the band and the excellent musicianship of its members. This newly re-mastered Esoteric reissue, in full co-operation with Love Records in Finland, fully restores the album artwork, including the original inner booklet, and marks the albums long overdue debut release in the UK.

In 2008, Trio X conducted a tenth anniversary tour, all of it recorded by the master engineer, Marc Rusch. And now the music from that tour is preserved in a magnificent 5-CD set: Trio X Live on Tour 2008. Those who have followed Trio X over the years will find this both familiar and fresh and will rejoice in the pleasures of this new release. Program notes for the complete set are written by Producer Bob Rusch, and address the music and each venue (Colgate University; Edgefest [Ann Arbor, MI]; University of Illinois at Urbana [Champaign, IL]; Waukee, Iowa; Davenport, Iowa [PolyRhythms]; Bowling Green State University [Bowling Green, OH]; and Hamilton College). Great music, state of the art audio, photos, and insights all wrapped up in one delicious package.

Crown of Phantoms is the upcoming seventh studio album from American metal band Chimaira. The album is set for release on July 30, 2013, via record label E1 Music. It is the first Chimaira album to feature Austin D'Amond, Jeremy Creamer, Sean Zatorsky, Emil Werstler, and Matt Szlachta, who all joined the band during 2011 and 2012.

The rock journeyman finally releases his solo debut. It’s just over a decade since Jason Newsted called time on his 15 years with Metallica, a gig he landed after the tragic death of original bassist Cliff Burton. Since then he’s become one of the most prolific players on the circuit, including stints with Ozzy Osbourne and thrash legends Voivod. Jason ‘New Kid’ is 50 now, and Heavy Metal Music – there’s some statement of intent – is as solid as his lengthy CV would lead you to expect.Its chugging riffery and Newsted’s near-spoken growl pinpoint largely legacy influences – the nu metal crowd might find it a little too trad. But at its best, as on the churning …As the Crow Flies, or on the crunching, Sabbath slowburn of Futurereality, it’s a blast, and his sure-footed backing (including Staind guitarist Mike Mushok) play up a storm. Hugely likeable, highly recommended.

Pure Disco contains 12" mixes and remixes of classic dance and disco songs from the late '70s, including "I Love the Nightlife," "I Will Survive," "Celebration," "That's the Way (I Like It)," "Funkytown," "YMCA," and "Dancing Queen." Though there are a few original versions of these singles on the disc, most of it is comprised of remixes, which are simply adequate, with the noticeable exception of "The Grease Megamix." Combining the most familiar segments of the biggest hits from the Grease movie soundtrack, the song is a unabashedly kitschy delight, the kind you feel guilty for liking and the kind that makes the album worth buying.
