Summer Horns is the first studio album from Dave Koz since 2010's Hello Tomorrow. That said, it's not solely billed to him. The "and Friends" on the bill refers to three other contemporary jazz saxophonists: Gerald Albright, Mindi Abair, and Richard Elliot. Produced by Paul Brown, this is a big up-front horn section record, full of jazz, funk, and R&B covers, alternately by Greg Adams, Tom Scott, Gordon Goodwin, and Albright. The four-sax line is augmented by brass in various places, too. While Brown's production sound stays within the genre of contemporary jazz – it's both clean and bright – the feel is all groove.

It’s been a decade and a half since Toad the Wet Sprocket has released new music. The foursome was at the height of their popularity in the early-mid Nineties, with hits like “All I Want,” “Walk on the Ocean,” “Good Intentions” and “Something’s Always Wrong.” The easygoing jangle of their music and the earnest lyricism of frontman Glen Phillips earned them a string of hit albums throughout the decade. Toad has been touring for a couple of years now, and they also released an album of re-recorded versions of their hits, but “New Constellation” is marks the first original song recorded since the fellas reunited.

Looking at them, you would not think Deap Vally – a primal two-girl guitar'n'drums duo from LA – met in a crochet class. Deap Vally sound like trouble, dress like perdition and their promotional materials aren't shy of suggesting to the gullible that a little girl-on-girl action might take place during studio downtime.

Although the best-known band of the early Australian punk scene of the late '70s was the Saints, the first band to wave the punk rock flag in the land down under was Radio Birdman. Radios Appear was the first full length studio album, recorded at Birdman's Trafalgar Studios, Sydney during 1976 and 1977. Trafalgar initially distributed the album via mail order and by sales from the backs of friend's and band members' station wagons. This laid the groundwork for future DIY punk bands in Australia. Radios Appear was hailed by many as a breakthrough album in Australian music and a decisive change from the uneventful early mid-seventies scene. In October 2010, it was listed at No. 13 in the book, 100 Best Australian Albums.

This is an ambitious two-disk set comprising interesting performances of GENESIS material by mostly unknown groups and individual artists (except perhaps for GALAHAD and a couple of other professional musicians). While not every track works perfectly, most are interesting because rare are the ones so faithful to the originals that nothing new is added to them…

Until the arrival of the Sugarcubes, jazz fusion band Mezzoforte was Iceland’s best-known musical export. The group was formed in 1977 at a Reykjavik high school by Fridrik Karlsson (b. 24 April 1960; guitar), Eythór Gunnarsson (b. 9 September 1961; keyboards), Jóhann Ásmundsson (b. 30 March 1961; bass), and Gunnlaugur Briem (b. 8 September 1962; drums). They signed a recording contract with local label Steinar, and with the assistance of Stefán S. Stefánsson (saxophone) recorded their debut album. Bjorn Thorarensen (keyboards) joined in time for the recording of the band’s second long-player. Kristinn Svavarsson (saxophone) was featured on the exuberant ‘Garden Party’, which was a Top 20 hit in the UK in 1983.

Best known for expanding the possibilities of the musette an early 20th century French ballroom dance to incorporate contemporary attitudes and the postmodern improv of more traditional jazz, the accordionist Richard Galliano ultimately posed a triple threat in the music world, establishing himself with like force as a composer and arranger. With time, Galliano a protégé of Astor Piazzolla worked elements of Piazzolla's tango nueve into his style.
