Agathodaimon, that’s who. They’re from Germany and specialize in “dark metal,” as opposed to the “bright metal” that some other bands specialize in. Agathodaimon entered Kohlekeller Studios in February with producer Kristian “Kohle” Kohlmannslehner to begin recording its new album, In Darkness.The disc will be released June 28 on Massacre Records.The follow-up to 2009′s Phoenix features cover artwork by the very capable Hicham Haddaji of Strychneen Studio.

Coming five years after his last album, 2002's Virtual Virtue, Eric Jerardi returns with the stripped-down, live in the studio Restless. Unfussy white-boy blues-rock in the Texas style (think vintage Fabulous Thunderbirds), Jerardi and his newly augmented backing band, now featuring organist Al Gamble alongside his usual rhythm section of drummer Joe Prescott and bassist Jon Arnold, deliver a solid if unspectacular set of original tunes.

"Physical" became such a monster hit – not just a hit, but a pop-culture phenomenon that was impossible to escape – that it became difficult to view its accompanying album as anything other than a conduit for the single. The thing was, Physical was a damn good record, in many ways one of Olivia Newton-John's very best.

Although this two-disc set is a compilation – primarily consisting of extended outtakes – Circle in the Round features the true colors of jazz chameleon Miles Davis (trumpet) during a 15-year (1955-1970) span from eight different recording sessions. Whether it was serendipity or astute coordination that gathered these sides together, Davis enthusiasts will undoubtedly find plenty to enjoy from his prolific and seemingly perpetual metamorphosis.

Here's a collection of Bach pieces where the performances fit together exceptionally well. The basic sound is that of Canada's veteran Baroque ensemble Tafelmusik under violinist and director Jeanne Lamon: smooth, bright, French in its light seductiveness. Sample the almost accentless Rondeau from the Suite in A minor, a violin-and-strings transcription (and according to musicologist Joshua Rifkin a reconstruction of an original version) of the Suite in B minor for orchestra, BWV 1067; you couldn't call it gutsy, but the degree of control and consistency is impressive.
