Hailing from The Netherlands, The Travoltas were a poppunk band, combining the energy and power of punkrock with the melodies and harmonies of classic popbands like the Beach Boys and the Byrds. The band is often reffered to as "the Beach Boys of Punk Rock" or "a cross between the Ramones, the Beach Boys and Weezer". Their trademark sound is in fact a combination of afore mentioned bands and 80's powerpop (the Cars, Blondie) adding influences ranging from surf music to new wave. But the Travoltas sound more than straight Beach Boys with distorted guitars, and throw a little Weezer in for good measure… In result is something so unique and catchy, you can't help but love it. Make no mistake, though, despite the killer vocal harmonies and keyboard work, these guys know how to Rock! In 2002, Nice Guy Records released a brand new CD for the Travoltas called "Step on the Gas and Don't Look Back". It features 12 previously unreleased in the USA songs, plus two music videos.

Candlelight Records has set a June 25 North American release date for "Unnatural Selection", the new album from Denver thrashers HAVOK. The ten-song CD was produced by David Sanchez, with mixing handled by Terry Date (PANTERA, OVERKILL, DEFTONES). It features original artwork from Polish illustrator Rafal Wechterowicz (SLAYER, MASTODON) and was mastered by James Murphy (ABORTED, WORLD UNDER BLOOD, ABIGAIL WILLIAMS).

A 60 minutes documentary film Shakti Timeless, which tells the story of the indo-western music group Shakti. Formed in 1975, the group pioneered a groundbreaking and highly influential musical East-meets-West approach. In the 70s, the group, whose name means creative intelligence, beauty and power, consisted of legendary British jazz guitarist John Mclaughlin, North Indian tabla master Zakir Hussain and violinist L. Shankar and ghatam (percussion) player T.H. "Vikku" Vinayakram, both of whom hail from South India. Together, they created a fluid and organic sound that managed to successfully combine seemingly incompatible traditions.

Sixty-one years after its completion, Skalkottas' Musik für Klavier -the overal title of his 32 Piano Pieces - can assume its place among the major piano cycles of the 20th century. Formidably difficult technically, its
apparently disparate content - there is not the conceptual focus of, say, Messiaen's Vingt regagds sur l'enfant Jésus - may have militated against its wider recognition. So itis a tribute to Nikolaos Samaltanos, in this first complete recording, that he projects the work as an integral entity. and as the compendium of mid-century pianism that the composer intended……….A timely release urgently recommended.
