Russia’s two biggest opera stars, Anna Netrebko and Dmitriy Khvorostovsky, are performing for the first time in Moscow’s Red Square. They sing Verdi, Puccini and Tchaikovsky, bringing the audience to a stunned silence with the despairing aria from "Eugene Onegin". Front-row tickets were sold for as much as $1,100 for the show, which is also broadcast in Russia, France and Germany. The State Academic Symphony Orchestra or Russia and Grand Choir "Masters of Choral Singing" are conducted by Constantine Orbelian.

Condition Green, a motley band of volume worshipers from Japan whose first two albums, Life Of Change and Mixed Up, can (mostly) stand tall amongst the contemporary classics (prime era Grand Funk, Ted Nugent, Mountain, etc.). Guitarist Shinki (not to be confused with Yokohama guitarist Shinki Chen) in particular is a monster, even if he can get a bit Santana-esque at moments throughout Life Of Change (particularly the back half of "Heart Breaker," and especially on the conga infused "Sugar Baby Good Time.") The group really builds up a serious head of steam on that latter track, starting with a slow, simmering groove that sits somewhere between "Oye Como Va" and "Spooky." You could call this stuff dated, if you're a glass-is-half-empty type, but there's no denying the Allman Brothers boogie of "Trick," or the early Led Zeppelin strut of "Heart Taker."

A great album but one that is also tinged with sadness. Willy's voice sounds weaker than in previous albums, and at times this sounds like his own requiem…

"Lizard" is the third album by King Crimson, released in 1970. It was the second recorded by a transitional line-up of the group that never had the opportunity to perform live, following "In the Wake of Poseidon". This would be the first (and only) album to feature bassist/vocalist Gordon Haskell, apart from his appearance on the song "Cadence and Cascade" from the previous album, and drummer Andy McCulloch as official members of the band.
The record is arguably King Crimson's most jazz-inflected album, developing further in the direction suggested by the track "Cat Food" on the previous album.

Stuart "Woolly" Wolstenholme left Barclay James Harvest in 1979, and released Maestoso the following year, with a remit very similar to that of his previous outfit. The album is vaguely progressive, but with a strong emphasis on songs, many of them veering sharply towards the 'commercial' end of the spectrum.

More than a decade in the making, Moonroot’s debut comprises years of recordings that took place periodically throughout their career. Born before the large folk metal trend, Moonroot was in pursuit of capturing the old and blending it with the new. Featuring members of the esteemed US medieval ensemble, The Soil Bleeds Black and the soprano voice of Dawn Desiree’ of Rain Fell Within, Moonroot’s debut is a quality showcase of melodic and catchy tracks that will take the listener on an adventure through the ancient past. The use of authentic period instruments coupled with modern ones, brings powerful character to the album. The title track features a guest vocal appearance from Alison O’Donnell of Mellow Candle, one of the most respected early 70′s prog-folk bands of its time. Presented as an Ecowallet CD with cover artwork by Kris Verwimp, “Under the Ancient Oak” offers the perfect blend of folk metal, rock and 70′s prog inspiration!

It may not have been the most natural match in music history, but the marriage of Sparks' focus on oddball pop songs to the driving disco-trance of Giorgio Moroder produced the duo's best album in years. From the chart hits "Number One Song in Heaven" and "Beat the Clock" to solid album tracks like "La Dolce Vita," No. 1 in Heaven surprises by succeeding on an artistic and commercial level despite the fact that neither the Mael brothers nor Moroder tempered their respective idiosyncrasies for the project. Moroder's production is just as dizzying, chunky, and completely rhythm-driven as on his best work with Donna Summer, and the Mael brothers prove on "Tryouts for the Human Race" and "Academy Award Performance" that their bizarre songwriting wasn't compromised.

Shades of Deep Purple is the debut album by English hard rock band Deep Purple, released in 1968. It was released without much attention in the UK, where it did not perform sales-wise. In the US on the other hand, it was a massive success, contributing largely to the attention Deep Purple would get there, and also eventually also over to the UK. Sound-wise, it is more leaned on psychedelia and progressive rock, as Ritchie Blackmore's desire of a heavier direction was not allowed to be fulfilled due to time-and budget constrains.

The Book of Taliesyn is the second album by English rock band Deep Purple, released in 1968. The album follows the psychedelic/progressive rock sound of Shades of Deep Purple; however, there is a harder edge to several songs, beginning to show the new sound Deep Purple would introduce in 1970 with Deep Purple in Rock.
