In order to produce what it thought would be a definitive two-LP retrospective on George Benson, Warner Bros. raided not only its own archives but also those of A&M, Arista, and CTI. For added sales appeal, Warners inserted two new recordings, one of which ("Turn Your Love Around") became another huge hit single, rising to number five on the pop charts. Today, Collection remains the most inclusive Benson sampler, though far from a definitive …

Following two demo releases, US Doom/Hard Rockers Beelzefuzz have released their debut and self titled studio album! Opening with a tone similar to that of the blaring horn of the alien menace in War of the Worlds, Beelzefuzz then begin their groove soaked cruise through a sonic riff fest, bass heavy rhythmic pounding and all of the psychedelic in between you’d expect from an album of this nature and all of this gleaned just from opening track “Reborn”. Indeed “Lotus Jam” has a harder hitting and more severe edge to the riff-age as well as a more of that classic Sabbath sound favoured by so many bands.

In the disc's liner notes we're urged to judge Vivaldi's place "in the pantheon of great baroque composers" on the "stand-alone quality of his music" and not on errant or offhand claims of this or that musicologist. Well, owing to violinist Rachel Podger's stunning, fiercely energetic, ardently expressive, and technically assured performances and the ravishing orchestral support from the Polish period-instrument ensemble Arte Dei Suonatori, our task as listeners certainly is an easy and prodigiously enjoyable one. And that's not all the good news: this is truly one of those sonic "events" where the performers have an almost palpable presence, their sound is absolutely faithful and natural, and the balances are right on. Go ahead and turn this one up–you'll be immediately bathed in glorious, vibrant string sound, and be pleasantly surprised by the potential of Vivaldi's music to actually hold your undivided attention for an hour–maybe more.

Like many other British bands of the '90s, Supergrass' musical roots lie in the infectiously catchy punk-pop of the Buzzcocks and the Jam, as well as the post-punk pop of Madness and the traditional Brit-pop of the Kinks and Small Faces. Perhaps because of its age two of the trio were still in their teens when they recorded their debut single the band also brings in elements of decidedly unhip groups like Elton John, as well as classic rockers like David Bowie, the Beatles, and the Rolling Stones.

Three years after Cinema Serenade, violinist Itzhak Perlman and composer John Williams, arranged and recorded 12 more well known film scores. This time John Williams conducts the Boston Pops Orchestra and they focused on more "classic" cinema. So, Itzhak's bow and John's baguette will guide you this time through all time classics like "Gone with the wind", "Modern times" or "Casablanca" and immortals like Bette Davis, Humphrey Bogart, Errol Flynn, Ray Milland and Clark Gable. The magic continues. Enjoy.

Vivaldi's sacred music is not so famous as that of his contemporaries Bach and Handel, so this is a bargain opportunity to catch up. You might think Vivaldi's playful, virtuoso Italianate character and Catholic context would produce radically different music, but in George Guest's urgent readings, the mixture of restrainedly exultant choruses and austerely beautiful arias are near-identical to Bach.

    MP3 320 kbps CBR | 63:18 min | 139 MB
Genre: Jazz | Label: AUM Fidelity

The deeply lyrical and prolific pianist/composer Eri Yamamoto returns quickly to record with Firefly, a brand new collection of wholly original and indelible songs, this time performed live in intimate concert, with her decade-long devoted trio of bassist David Ambrosio and drummer Ikuo Takeuchi. Following so directly on their previous acclaimed and rife with riches album, The Next Page (itself following In Each Day, Something Good and Redwods), Yamamoto s consistently luminous writing, and the trio s telepathic performances thereof, is astonishing. The heft of emotional weight and remarkably honed craft once again on full display here is made all the more remarkable for their ability to make it sound so effortless.
