The first outing by Brian Auger's jazz-rock ensemble the Oblivion Express, first issued in 1971, is one of the great masterpieces of jazz-rock fusion. Auger, having just disbanded his longtime band the Trinity in 1970, still had plenty of rock and roll in his system. His yearning for the open frontiers of electric jazz was certainly the driving force – in the same way that it was for Miles Davis on A Tribute to Jack Johnson, and Lifetime was for Tony Williams – but it was anchored in the visceral application of rock. With guitarist Jim Mullen, bassist Barry Dean, and drummer Robbie McIntosh, Auger charted into the unknown. This album fits like a glove, each tune moving ever forward into the next.

This studio album is a splendid example of creativity and performance quality of Billy. Fabulous and surprising their sound, swing and big band.

Having built up both their reputation and their increasing musical range over earlier releases, the members of KMFDM brought it all together on the brilliant Naive, one of industrial/electronic body music's key albums and a great blast of entertainment from start to finish. The self-referential qualities evident from earlier songs like "More and Faster" came to the fore with the brief "Welcome," literally doing just that for new listeners, and from there KMFDM does everything from four-to-the-floor beats to Wagnerian epic metal and back again.

Singer, dancer, ingenue, Lyn Stanley is a fully realized and mature talent exploding into her own. An award-winning ballroom dancer, Stanley melds that physical experience of movement with her performance of jazz standards, bringing the genre back to its dancing, kinetic roots. As executive producer, Stanley brings a Midas touch to the proceedings, producing in wholly urbane and sophisticated collection of the best the Great American Songbook has to offer. It takes a certain fortitude to record one more collection of jazz standards, but, then again, this is the most appropriate starting place for Stanley. Standards are the proving ground for Stanley's singing philosophy and that philosophy is a sound and entertaining one.

The "Comeback" project was a film and soundtrack sung and acted by Burdon that was roughly based on Burdon's life. If you like Burdon and you haven't seen the film or bought this album, well, you've gone to bed without your supper and desert. Simply put, this is Burdon's best effort. "It Hurts Me Too", and "Bird On the Beach", and "Take It Easy" are cuts which capture Burdon's most stirring performances. By the way, the companion piece to this is the "Wicked man" cd which has the other tracks recorded for the "Comeback" project.A great F'N recording. If you don't have this in your Rock 'n Roll collection, then you ain't really got one!

The sixth album of the "barefoot diva" and her second recorded for northamerican audiences (after the self-titled of 1995). While the music is considerably more upbeat than that on her previous albums, the lyrics remain melancholic and nostalgic. Evora sing her world-famous mornas, bringing to light the fact that much of the youth of her native land of Cape Verde has emigrated, leaving the remaining population with an incurable nostalgia. Enjoy an excellent collection of beautiful, soul-stirring ballads, brought to life by unforgettable Cesaria's marvelous voice.

In addition to the steady line-up a few other names appeared featuring Dariusz Rybka (saxophone), Michał Bylica (trumpet), and Karolina Leszko (backing vocals). The album lyrically refers to the topics related to human life in the modern world and the longing for what has already passed.

…What a delightful surprise! I was most definitely not prepared for this bold but very entertaining take on Mozart's Die Entführung aus dem Serail. I particularly enjoyed Mojca Erdmann's sexy Blonde. The Blu-ray disc herein reviewed, courtesy of Opus Arte, is very easy to recommend, even if the audio could have been handled a bit better. Highly Recommended.

AMAZE ME's 3rd album is their second-best (after the debut). Melodic but rough-edged guitars…tight, catchy hooks…over-the-top choruses…slick, layered backing vocals…this CD is a melodic hard rocker's dream. Just one listen to "Red Lips" and you'll be humming it for days! Very few bands have the necessary talent to release three stellar albums in a row, but these boys prove that it can be done.

After "Breakthrough" (1986), Pierre Moerlen's Gong mostly returned to the jazz-rock fusion sound that made them so enjoyable in the late '70s and early '80s on "Second Wind". Benoit Moerlen, who had departed after "Downwind" (1979), is back for this album, with stalwarts Pierre Moerlen and bassist Hansford Rowe forming the stable core of the band. Ake Zeiden, who had joined for "Breakthrough" adds some fine guitar work to this album and talented keyboardist Frank Fischer is a welcome addition.
