Profile At a time when iconic AOR band “Journey” was inactive, members were split amongst multiple projects some of which delivered quality works, true to the standards of the legendary melodic rock group. One of these projects was “The Vu”; formed in 1984 and led by bassist Ross Valory, “The Vu” featured lead singer Kevin Chalfant, guitarist Steff Burns, drummer Prairie Prince and keyboardist Tim Gorman.

After 7 years, Detroit's SAPROGENIC are ready to release their new full-length album. Expanding Toward Collapsed Lungs, the groups third overall full-length record, will be released on August 20th. Expanding Toward Collapsed Lungs is American made death metal thru-and-thru; nods to Cannibal Corpse, Suffocation, and Morbid Angel can be heard throughout the meaty riffs and head-nodding grooves.

Makin' Love And Music was first released by Capitol in 1977 whilst Live In The UK comes from 1981 and was the band's last album for EMI. Live features hits such as 'Sexy Eyes', 'Sylvia's Mother' and 'When You're In Love With A Beautiful Woman'.

Is there anybody who remembers Snake Charmers debut album "Smoke And Mirrors" that was released 1993 with former Alien singer Pete Sandberg? That was a good typical Scandi AOR in the veins of Alien. Then they released "Backyard Boogaloo" in Japan a few of years ago but it vanished almost right away after it was released. Now the new MTM sidelabel called Classix has picked it up and releases it with bonus tracks. This album has a better sound and variation than the debut and the songs reaches from Mark Free to Ignition and Goran sings with class.

In August 2012, Swedish dark rockers KATATONIA released "Dead End Kings", their ninth studio album. The CD was the band's most successful to date and cemented the Swedes' position as masters of sorrowful metal. In September 2013, the band returns with "Dethroned And Uncrowned", their first release on Kscope, Peaceville's sister label.Many of the ecstatic reviews the "Dead End Kings" received commented on the fact that the album marked another step in the band's journey towards a more progressive sound. "Dethroned and Uncrowned" allows them to explore these elements of the record further as they have reworked the album, creating new moods and textures while still staying truthful to the core of the songs.

Black Fire, Andrew Hill's debut record for Blue Note, was an impressive statement of purpose that retains much of its power decades after its initial release. Hill's music is quite original, building from a hard bop foundation and moving into uncharted harmonic and rhythmic territory. His compositions and technique take chances; he often sounds restless, searching relentlessly for provocative voicings, rhythms, and phrases.

Thanks to the Latin-inflected title track, Children of Sanchez became another huge hit for Chuck Mangione. The title song even earned him a Grammy for Best Pop Instrumental Performance, and serious jazz listeners will spot a problem with that award – it was for pop, not jazz. That, of course, is an accurate assessment of Mangione's music, since there isn't much improvisation on the album at all. Instead, there's a selection of Spanish- and Latin-flavored instrumentals, arranged as if to give the impression that the album is a song cycle. If so, it's a song cycle/concept album that doesn't go anywhere. Nevertheless, there's enough pleasant music here to satisfy fans of his pop stylings.

In general, Joe Henderson's take on "Porgy & Bess" meets the high standards of his latter-day records for Verve. Working with arranger Bob Belden and a wonderful combo – including guitarist John Scofield, pianist Tommy Flanagan, bassist Dave Holland, drummer Jack DeJohnette, trombonist Conrad Herwig and vibraphonist Stefon Harris – Henderson brings Gershwin's music to life with subtle beauty and grace. Furthermore, he demonstrates his uniqueness – Henderson's "Porgy & Bess" may share the same source as Miles Davis' legendary "Porgy & Bess", yet it has an original sound, relying less on orchestration than that classic. While this disc is not flawless – instead of enhancing the music, guest spots from vocalists Chaka Khan and Sting actually stop the momentum, calling attention to themselves – it nevertheless is another valuable addition to Henderson's catalog.
