    The Crossing, Donald Nally, conductor

The remarkable women of The Crossing offer a recording that is as virtuosic as it is emotional, resonating with recurring themes of desire and strength, peace, and longing. The ensemble’s affinity for the unique compositional style of Pulitzer Laureate David Lang is heard in his provocative and humorous “this condition” (2005), his wrenching “I live in pain” (written for the ensemble in 2010) and the title track, the driven, moving “I want to live” (2004).

For this, their second album, ZOFO returns with exciting, high energy duet works by another group of noted 20th century composers, all American – George Gershwin, Conlon Nancarrow, Allen Shawn, Samuel Barber, John Corigliano and Paul Schoenfield. The pieces featured on Mosh Pit explore a wide range of evocative dance styles and rhythms, from Gershwin’s driving rumba in “Cuban Overture” to Barber’s sensuous “Hesitation-Tango” to Paul Schoenfield’s dizzying “Boogie” from Five Days from the Life of a Manic Depressive. Drawing inspiration from classical, modern, jazz, and rock and roll forms, the Mosh Pit repertoire and ZOFO’s inspired performances might tempt you to the dance floor.

I Wish We All Could Win is the debut of the Afters, a Texas quartet whose slick alternative pop settles nicely between Switchfoot and Fountains of Wayne. They avoid the latter band's sardonic wit – after all, Win is a joint release between Epic and Christian imprint INO. Instead, the Afters concentrate on bright and hopeful, but also pretty trite sentiment like "On this beautiful night/We'll make everything right/My beautiful love," and "Love Will You Make You Beautiful."..

    Melodic Death Metal

What are we now? We are the change!" is an essential line in DEADLOCK’s "The Final Storm" and can be regarded as the red thread when it comes to their sixth album, "The Arsonist". After a line-up change, a new chapter opens in the book of DEADLOCK. A chapter that couldn’t be more electrifying and thrilling. Every part, every vocal line and each and every played note had to live up to the expectations of all band members. The result – "The Arsonist" – is a testament to this work ethic. Be it the driving opener "The Great Pretender", the brutal Death Metal song "Darkness Divine", or the ballad "Hurt" that puts the angelic voice of Sabine Scherer in the spotlight. The mix of Melodic Death Metal and elements from the world of Pop has reached a new level of maturity and depth of details on "The Arsonist".

"Paul Bruce Dickinson" (born August 7, 1958 in Worksop, Nottinghamshire, England) is a British singer, airline pilot, radio show host, fencer and songwriter, best-known as the lead singer in the iconic heavy metal band Iron Maiden. According to All Music Guide, Dickinson 'was the most acclaimed and instantly recognizable vocalist to emerge from the New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement of the early-'80s'. Before Iron Maiden, he was the singer in a similar band called Samson from 1979 until he joined Iron Maiden two years later in 1981.Dickinson quit Iron Maiden in 1993 in order to pursue his solo career and was replaced by Blaze Bayley, who had previously been the lead singer of the metal band Wolfsbane. Dickinson's solo work ranges from the Alternative Rock sound of 1996's Skunkworks, to the all out Metal style of Accident of Birth. Dickinson was releasing an artistic energy he felt was suppressed by Iron Maiden's strict progressive metal format, which he claimed could not accommodate emotional reflection as evidenced in the lyrics of 'Tears of the Dragon.'…..
