Besides the SWF (German south-west broadcast) series with German bands of the Krautrock era, Long Hair start a new series with recordings form the vaults of Bavarian Broadcast Corporation (located in Munich). Volume 1 of the series is dedicated to Aera, one of Germany´s finest bands of this time and well known because of their albums 'Humanum Est' and 'Hand und Fuss' (vinyl version re-released on Long Hair, LHC43 and LHC44). On January 9,1975 Aera with the line-up (same as on 'Humanum Est') Muck Groh, guitar, Klaus Kreuzeder, sax and flute, Dieter Bauer, bass and drummer Wolfgang Teske, performed in an extraordinary setting-St. George´s Church in Freising, district of Munich. The idea of the concert was to open the church for contemporary music and to give the musicians the chance to interpret the Roman Catholic liturgy, the 'Holy Mass', with their music. Aera went a long with the five components of the holy mass and played two titles of their up coming album 'Humanum Est' and another three titles that were not included on any album. The titles presented during the second part of the concert were earlier versions of titles that were later released on the album 'Hand und Fuss'. Aera played more than 75 minutes. All titles were digitally remastered from original master tape. Booklets contains story and a review of the concert and rare photos. Highly recommended!

"Physical" and "Make a Move on Me" were brilliant singles from 1981's Physical album, and they achieved their status as timeless pop classics without the help of a Xanadu soundtrack. "Overnight Observation" from Soul Kiss doesn't come close to the magic of those radio gems. It, like the front and back cover photos, seems a bit contrived, as does much of this album. "You Were Great, How Was I?" is a duet with Carl Wilson, and features he and Christopher Cross providing authentic Beach Boys harmonies.

Hotel Palindrone are from Austria but they dive into a lot of different traditions and then surface, holding the things they like. So you may hear a Scottish air next to some exquisite yodelling as well as more traditional Austrian tunes, or with a waltz, a Swedish polska and then Quebecois or Galician dance tunes…

The much-recorded set of seven Pietistic cantatas Fanfare 12:5) and the other (Weckmann’s) by Max van Egmond (16:4). In addition to the 17 versions of the main work listed earlier (31:5), Jörg Breiding has recently led a new version which, like this one, has generous fillers. The present version uses one voice to a part along with the Purcell Quartet (violins and organ) and Fretwork (a viol consort), almost exactly the makeup of the favored version under Harry Christophers (34:1). The new version is five minutes longer than that one, not counting the fillers, but neither one approaches the extremes of fast and slow that were noted in the earlier survey.

His sophisticated use of harmony, including the use of tritone substitutions, his virtuosic solos and his strong influence on Dizzy Gillespie mark him as one of the most exciting musicians of the swing era and a precursor of bebop.

2013 album from the Pop/Soul singer, songwriter, producer and musician. Mayer Hawthorne draws influence from the music of Curtis Mayfield, Isaac Hayes, Leroy Hutson, Mike Terry, Barry White, Smokey Robinson and the legendary songwriting and production trio of Holland/Dozier/Holland. Taking umbrage at the notion that his is a purely "throwback" Soul sound, however, Hawthorne also cites more contemporary artists, such as J Dilla, as significant influences.

Drummer Craig Wuepper follows up his superb 2001 debut, The Returnsman, with his equally as compelling sophomore effort, Leaps and Bounds. A New York-based jazz drummer, Wuepper composed all of the material here save for a version of Cole Porter's "I Concentrate on You" and an intimate, Latin-infused version of "My One and Only Love." Joining Wuepper is a veritable who's who of acoustic jazz, including trumpeter Jim Rotondi, tenor saxophonist David Schnitter, pianist David Hazeltine, and bassist Dennis Irwin. The result of Wuepper's efforts is a thoughtful, urbane, and swinging album of straight-ahead jazz.

Anyone who is a cult fanatic or even a mild admirer of this influential rock, punk band will be interested. The best thing I found about this double disc set is that a large proportion of the set list includes pre-electric tunes. There is a large degree of Love songs on this set and what's even better is that you get to hear how these tracks have "mutated" and changed since the early 80's.
