    Darius Milhaud - Symphony No.10, 11 and 12
    Classical | EAC: FLAC+Cue+Log | 1 Cd, Covers + Booklet | 345 Mb
    Date: 1996

The music of the Milhaud's Symphony No. 10 is typical of the composer's work at the time. Its polytonality and frequent recourse to spiky melodic lines makes it a work that often moves in jolts rather than smooth flow. Its harmonic language is polytonal, meaning that different lines of the music are in different keys from one another. This results in a high level of dissonance whose effect ranges from charmingly spicy to dense and hard-edged. The work remains tonal, though the almost constant presence of tones ………

Wildlife's second album (after the very average 'Burning' debut that was released on Chrysalis in '80) & a very welcome first time on CD. This realy is a very good album indeed & one of Steve Overlands best vocally. Not surprisingly, considering the lineup and producer, Wildlife come across as a mix between a less polished FM and a more commercial Bad Co. & you can hear loads of FM influences across this album, due of course to Steve Overlands fantastic voice, which is so unmistakable & Chris Overlands guitar sounds.

Inspired by time spent trapped in his apartment during Hurricane Sandy last fall, Lee Ranaldo's 2013 album with his band The Dust tackles themes of despair, rage and societal shift. The songs on the new album are darker, longer and more intense than those of its predecessor. In particular, the intertwining guitar play between Ranaldo (Sonic Youth) and Alan Licht (Love Child, Run On) enlivens these beautiful, scary songs. The Dust also features the incredible drumming of Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth) and bass work of Tim Lüntzel (who has worked with artists from Van Dyke Parks to Norah Jones.

The famous italian songwriter and singer Fabrizio De Andre, gave very few live concerts during his brilliant career. So, his 4-day tour in January 1979 at Bologna and Firenze was very eagerly awaited, because De Andre had asked the popular Italian rock band PFM to be his supporting band, and to work out new arrangements for his popular hits. The collaboration was a great success. PFM's re-arrangement added synthesizer counter-melodies taking the place of the orchestral arrangements, drums emphasizing the rhythmic patterns, and many electric guitar solos. These two live albums became best-sellers with more than 60 weeks on the charts. Enjoy a rare live gem.

"It is some two years since the debut album by Shadowman was released (“Land of the Living” ESM098). The album was warmly received by all who had a penchant for good old British melodic hard rock. As you would expect Shadowman had elements of both Heartland and FM deeply embedded in its grooves, yet it was highly original and was often touted as the best British melodic release of 2004.

…The jostling arrangements sound intuitive, though the darting solos miraculously avoid collision. Such an overload can be gloriously exhausting. Dynamic pauses recur, always providing adequate breathers between each sprinting outbreak. During the making of this review, I took a break where an old side one might have ended, so overwhelming are this disc's riches. bbc.co.uk
