In the early '80s, another wave of backward-masking hysteria hit the national scene, with unfounded claims that popular rock bands intentionally hid Satanic messages in their records. ELO had already been hit with this rumor for a song on their album ELDORADO, and on the following album's "Fire on High," Jeff Lynne deliberately placed an obvious backwards message…

Ivan Fischer's version of these ever-popular classics is as valid an essay in stylistic restoration as the most scholarly period-instrument performance of Bach or Handel… The transcriptions have been reworked and in one or two movements an improvised cimbalom part has been added, played by a well-known Hungarian musician, Kalman Balogh. Not a record for purists perhaps, but I found the results invigorating and thought-provoking.- S.J. Gramophone, March 1987.

"Blues Theme" is arguably the most famous track by Davie Allan & the Arrows. It was recorded quickly on Mike Curb's Tower label for the soundtrack to the move Wild Angels – Peter Fonda's first biker flick and just before Easy Rider. With wild, screaming fuzz guitar and a surf beat, it signifies the sound of the L.A. Strip in 1967 and embodies – in its two-minutes-and-ten-seconds – all the cultural elements of its soundtrack – the waning surf scene that traveled it, the muscle cars that roared through its lanes, the dawn of acid-crazed hippies floating down it, and the speed-drenched outlaw biker tribes who haunted it…

Fourth album of Brazilian singer Astrud Gilberto (Bahia, 1940). Astrud's voice has been described as the voice of the sound of the 'cherished innocence'. She has a great command of bossa songs while creating fresh and incisive interpretations of American popular songs. On this album she plays singing in both English and Portuguese on musical arrangements and orchestrations of the late Canadian musician Gil Evans. The songs in Portuguese look a magical and warm interpretative delicacy.

German death metal horde DEFEATED SANITY have completed work on their new full-length album. Titled Passages Into Deformity, the nine-track follow-up to 2010’s critically-lauded Chapters of Repugnance is scheduled for release on February 5, 2013 via Willowtip Records.Comments the band in a collective statement: “With Passages Into Deformity, fans can expect another quality release from DEFEATED SANITY. Without compromising the brutality of our sound, we have stepped it up in terms of the overall production. The album has a more old-school vibe to it, with a lot of early ‘90s inspired riffs and slams, but we made it a point to not get away from the technical and progressive stuff as well. People can definitely expect the most balanced DEFEATED SANITY album yet
