Hilding Rosenberg (1892-1985), the patriarch of 20th century Swedish music, wrote altogether 14 string quartets, the first in 1920 and the final more than half a century later. This makes him one of the most prolific composers of chamber music in Scandinavia. Also artistically, by virtue of his very personal approach, his power of expression and his technical mastery, Rosenberg’s production is truly outstanding. This CD contains the Quartets No. 10 and 11. The participating musicians are: The Fresk Quartet and the Tale Quartet.

After a few years in Europe and his drug addiction Chet returned to the U.S. and published this work with some new very advanced and creative playing style. He had to use a flugelhorn in the recording because they had stolen his trumpet. But Chet continued sounding warm and smooth, without losing his human touch, while showing the three facets erforming disk: lyrical and sensitive instrumental, vocal and stylistic oriented be-bop. Back in 1987 Chet stated that this album was one of his favorites. It's certainly one of the best in the 60s. His depth of feeling and melodic richness so credited.
