Patti Smith was one of the key artists in the breakthrough of New York City punk rock with her 1975 debut album “Horses” being hugely influential on the whole New Wave genre. This concert at Montreux from 2005 was part of the tour in support of her 2004 album “Trampin’” and the setlist features tracks from her first album right through to that release. Patti Smith remains a vibrant live performer and this first ever live concert DVD is a long overdue treat for all her fans.

    Lush - Split (1994) REPOST

    Lush - Split (1994)
    Rock | 1cd | EAC Rip | Flac + Cue + Log | covers
    4AD gad 4011 cd | rel: 1994 | 420Mb

Entire albums spent exploring the depths of the various nasty things surrounding romantic relationships were nothing new by the mid-'90s, but the vaguely cinematic and slightly conceptual Split is something more. Perhaps it's the manner in which each distinctive song manages to melt into the next. Or maybe it's the across-the-board improvements over Spooky. Most knew they were capable of more after the decent but flawed record, but it's doubtful many could have predicted something this thoroughly wonderful and varied. Throughout, Lush sounds confident and downright muscular, as opposed to the feathery wisps of earlier material that could be knocked down with the slightest of breezes.

    Rock | 1cd | EAC Rip | Flac + Cue + Log | covers
    Repertoire REP 5076 | rel: 2006 | 350Mb

Rich Man was originally released by Sire in 1972, four years before the Climax Blues Band broke through to the mainstream via their only radio hit, "Couldn't Get It Right." While this isn't the most memorable record in their discography, it is worth checking out for fans, as a lighter, pop-oriented approach is mixed with the hard blues-rock the band was known for at the time, especially on the Bo Diddley-like "Shake Your Love" and the Son House standard "Don't You Mind People Grinning in Your Face." ~Allmusic

Dark Features - The Control (2013)
    MP3 CBR 320 kbps | Tracks: 12 | 51:00 min | 117 Mb
Style: Electronic, Indie | Label: Dark Features Records

Right off the bat, Dark Features starts off with a use of heavy electronics and steady drums highlights the bands dark features. Songs like “Coastal” and “Golden” show the bands good side as they incorporate the highs and lows of the synths and guitar which play off of the singer’s voice giving it a very Nine Inch Nails feel. But the band fails to deliver on some songs like “La Nina” where they use a lot of heavy instruments which causes the song to become distorted and ruins the song. Overall this is a good experimental album to listen too.

The second instalment of the Poenitz cycle on Brilliant Classics presents works for solo voice, accompanied by harp(s) and harmonium. The unique instrumental colours lend a special atmosphere to these intimate and deeply felt works, often on sacred texts. Franz Poenitz was not only a virtuoso on the harp (as is clearly evident in the rich and complex writing for his instrument in this music) but also an accomplished painter, one of his creations adorns the cover of the CD. New recording, with liner notes written by a descendant of Poenitz, Mr Andreas Fischer.

    Blues Rock, Blues Folk | MP3 CBR 320 kbps | 00:47:06 | 109 MB
    Label: True North Records | Tracks: 12 | Rls.date: 2014

The excitement has been building over the new Matt Andersen album. It's called Weightless. Plus, Matt did a big launch in Toronto earlier this month before heading out to the U.S. for a major tour there. What's happening this time is an increased push for a bigger record label, True North, and new management, publicity and booking representation. A whole new team, with a dedicated goal of broadening his audience. So, does this mean a slicker, more popular approach? No, not on your life. Wisely, Andersen's music has been left alone, his talents speak for themselves. The one sign on the record of him raising things up a level is the choice of producer.

Grammy Award winning Suzy Bogguss didn't set out to craft a Merle Haggard tribute record. Some might call that serendipity; she just calls it "Lucky." An accomplished artist and songwriter in her own right, Bogguss and her husband/co-producer Doug Crider were combing through songs to consider for her next project. Never one to hew to a particular style, having branched out into jazz, folk and swing sounds alongside traditional and modern country, Bogguss kept coming back to a set of songs that spoke to her…and they just happened to be by Haggard.
