A collaboration between an avant-garde modern classical composer and a traditional Indian/Hindi composer/performer seems as unlikely as ice hockey on the River Styx. However, Passages is a collaboration between Philip Glass and Ravi Shankar and it works quite well. Shankar's smooth style fits nicely with Glass' dissonant orchestrations. There is a great deal of technical data involved here. Both of these artists have long taken intellectual approaches to music. Thus, the liner notes are a bit heavy-handed. The music is brilliant. The symphony dominates the soundscapes, but Shankar's atmospheres are integral to the success of this project.

This is one of the finest Howard Alden albums, full of vivid interplay and delicate finesse by two of the greatest guitarists on the planet. Highly recommended.

Produced by Jacob Hansen (who has also worked with Volbeat, Rob Rock and Beyond Twilight), Pandemonium, with its melodic approach, is a definite return to the Future World/Red Hot And Heavy era of the '80s, but with an updated sound and freshness that consolidates that Pretty Maids are as strong as ever.

Bassist Parrott performs vocals on two selections, displaying her lovely, plaintive singing voice beautifully. Album published to mark the sixtieth anniversary of the establishment of the Orquesta Aragón. The band was definitely the most famous charanga in Cuba during the 50s and 60s. Resumed the career during the '90s, then was touring Europe in 1997 and refreshed the repertoire. This album, recorded between March and April 1999 in Cuba, achieves a great balance between the classical repertoire of Aragón, Cuban classics and the latest music. It features presentations by distinguished guest artists as Cuban singer Omara Portuondo, the Puerto Rican salsa singer Cheo Feliciano or Congolese Papa Wemba, along with others like Felo Bacallao, Pablo Santamaria, Pancho Amat or Juan Verdera. This is the rebirth of eternal charanga Orquesta Aragon, performing rhythms of Cuban air like son, guaracha, danzón, bolero and rumba.
