Cover Magazine is like a primer on long-running Arizona institution Giant Sand: a mix of highbrow and lowbrow influences rendered with exquisite musicianship, all saturated by the hushed, plainspoken vocals of Howe Gelb. Over the years, this revolving cast of characters has been compared to everyone from Bob Dylan to Neil Young (with or without Crazy Horse), but the strongest resemblance on this live outing is to the Band (Gelb even sounds a bit like Robbie Robertson) – …

The Rifles return with their fourth studio album None the Wiser. None The Wiser finds the four-piece on fine form, and marks another raising of the bar. Their trademark Mod and indie pop sound are present and correct, but the band have broadened their musical palette, drawing influence from, Bob Dylan, Talking Heads, some Clash and as always - the Beatles. Minute Mile builds to a crescendo of raucous guitars and percussion, that leads into the super-charged rock n roll of Heebie Geebies. Go Lucky nods towards The Jam, whilst You Win Some is an uplifting British take on West Coast folk rock.

The Vintage Caravan are a young band hailing from the Greater Reykjavik area. The Band was originally founded around 2006 when the band members were very young. However, it did not become a serious project until 2009.Musical influences are very diverse but mainly include the classic hard rock of the 60's and 70's. Though the influence may suggest a glorified retro-type band, The Vintage Caravan do it in their own way with a powerful attitude and a modern twist.

The musicians in Grafitti are all excellent, but their music on Good Groove often sounds a bit like a "Music Minus One" record, an album in which one is waiting for the main soloist to show up. The four-piece rhythm section sets "good grooves" and certainly shows strong musicianship, which is not surprising considering that drummer Dennis Chambers is in the group.

From Nadia Reisenberg's biography in the notes: "Nadia Reisenberg was born in Vilnius, Lithuania… in 1904. … The Russian Revolution came, and the Reisenberg family left Russian, traveling to Warsaw (where Nadia made her orchestral debut at the same concert where a young conductor, Artur Rodzinski, was also making his formal debut), London, Berlin, and, in 1922, moving permanently to New York. She became a pupil of Alexander Lambert (himself a student of Franz Liszt), and later studied with Joseph Hofmann at the Curtis Institute of Music. "From Hoffman I got a PhD in beautiful, sensitive pedalling, something that far too many pianists neglect these days", she remembered.

With classical music training is remembered for his application to solve and interpret well-known works of classical music in a new pop style, which afforded him great success in sales and popularity. Waldo also made numerous arrangements for groups and well known singers of those years, especially in Spain. This disc includes his arrangements of some movements of classical symphonies. Here are the first attempts to popularize classical music as pop and the rock. Waldo conducts the Spanish Manuel de Falla Orchestra.

Compilation album, published posthumously in Brazil, performed by singer Elis Regina (Porto Alegre, 1945-1982), considered the best Brazilian singer of all time. Her voice and personality on stage became an innovative performer, able to drag her audience with the deployment of various emotions where each song demands it. Her early death at 36 years (due to a combination of alcohol and drug overdose) foiled a career that was definitely meant to be brilliant.

KMFDM's greatest hits package is quite complete – it includes "Juke Joint Jezebel," "Rip the System!," the Ministry-ish "A Drug Against War," "Light," "Don't Blow Your Top" and "Godlike-Doglike." KMFDM's songs have always spoken about the unspeakable (something Nine Inch Nails and Tool would take even further), and their music and lyrics feed off of each other to create an energetic-yet-squeamish, invigorating-but-uncomfortable sound. To really get an idea how they evolved, though, start with the last track (from their first album) and work forward: their political and social commentary, as well as their emotional intensity, hasn't changed, although their energy level increased in the '90s as industrial exploded.

After achieving moderate success with their self-titled debut, Ambrosia decided to up the ante by going for a bigger, more symphonic sound on this follow-up outing. To achieve this goal, they enlisted Alan Parsons, who mixed their first album, to produce and Andrew Powell (arranger for the Alan Parsons Project) to do full-blown orchestral arrangements on a number of the tracks. The resulting album lacks the careful fusion of pop and prog elements that characterized Ambrosia, with songs tending to fall into either progressive or soft rock categories.
