"Unreleased" is the eponymous studio album by American singer and songwriter Beyoncé Knowles, released on 5 January, 2014. by Parkwood Entertainment and Columbia Records. Described by Knowles as a "visual album", Beyoncé consists of fourteen tracks, each having an accompanying short film. Musically, the album explores electro-R&B and pop elements, combining minimalist production, loose song structure and emotive vocals. Knowles revisits her common theme of self-empowerment, but takes on much darker themes previously unexplored in her music, such as postnatal depression, insecurities of womanhood and frank, often explicit, discussion of sex.

Recorded at concerts in 1969 and 1970, this was an era in which Jim Morrison was becoming increasingly dissolute and increasingly disinterested in the whole rock machine. During much of this set, he seems not to be taking himself or the songs too seriously, tossing flippant asides to the audience that seem to treat the whole exercise as a charade.

Transgender Dysphoria Blues, the new album from the great Florida punk band Against Me!, is their first in four years, and they’re a very different Against Me! from the one who released White Crosses in 2010. The new album is the first since the band left behind the major-label universe, the first since half the band left and was replaced, and, most importantly, the first since frontman Tom Gabel became frontwoman Laura Jane Grace. It’s also an absolute monster of an album, a furious punk-rock clarion call that brings crunchy, gritty, anthemic vigor in ways that nobody really pulls off anymore. It’s easily the best 2014 album I’ve yet heard, a tremendously bracing and pleasurable musical experience. We’ve already posted early tracks “FUCKMYLIFE666” and “Black Me Out,” and those are great.
