More than ever the French outfit consisting of mastermind and multi-instrumentalist Neige and drummer Winterhalter embraces the dreamy guitar textures of shoegaze and blends it with the sweetness of british band Cocteau Twins - dream pop pioneers of the mid to late 80's era - epic, soundtrack-like melodies and progressive song structures.

The Polish composer Wojciech Kilar has made a particularly distinguished contribution to film music. He attended the summer courses at Darmstadt and studied with Nadia Boulanger in Paris after his earlier musical training in his own country. He has won a number of awards for his work. Influenced at first by Szymanowski, Stravinsky and Prokofiev, Kilar went on to make use of serial techniques, often in conjunction with more traditional forms ……..

A Great Big World is an American two-member musical group from New York made up of singers and songwriters Ian Axel and Chad Vaccarino and signed to Epic Records. The group is best known for their singles "This Is The New Year" which was performed by the cast in an episode of Glee and reaching the Billboard Mainstream Top 40 Chart in May 2013 and by their international hit "Say Something" particularly after recording it as a duet collaboration with Christina Aguilera.

Sibelius's choral music is deeply felt, nationalistic, and stirring. Subject matter ranges from the glory of the Northern lights (in "Oma maa" [Our Native Land]) to the Swedish-language "Sandels," in which a general, seemingly a coward, leads his men to victory through patience and odd timing, to the glories of the Earth ("Maan virsi"), to tales of characters from Finnish folklore. Most are for male choir, a couple are for mixed choir, and all are acompanied by large orchestra. Sibelius's ablity to tell a story is remarkable (it makes one wish he'd been more interested in opera), and desite the similarity in the forces used, the effects here are varied, from rousing to elegaic, to simply entertaining.

One of the most interesting aspects about the Alan Parsons Project is the band's ability to forge a main theme with each of its songs, while at the same time sounding extremely sharp and polished. Much of this formula is used in Ammonia Avenue, only this time the songs rise above Parsons' overall message due to the sheer beauty of the lyrics partnered with the luster of the instruments.

For her debut recording as a leader, post-Straight Ahead violinist Regina Carter plays marvelously, improvises well, and has a tone that is typically soaring, clear, and at times mournful. Victor Bailey's production values and songs (he wrote three) have a profound effect on the result of this music, which mostly ranges from pop-funk to smooth instrumentals. Carter wrote or co-wrote six of the ten tracks, but this is not to say it's all samey and predictable. The highlight is the Mark Helias piece "Beau Regard" in a 6/8 rhythm, where trombonist Steve Turre and Carter play wonderfully rich unison lines while pianist Rachel Z embellishes with her own gossamer-like, forward-moving runs.

"Eastern Frontier in Flames" compiles the band's long out of print EPs "Anti-Urban" and "Slavonic Chronicles", as well as songs taken from the "Thousands of Moons Ago / The Gates" split with Winterfylleth.

Eaglesmith is one of the unsung heroes of Alt Country. One of nine children born to a farming family in rural southern Ontario, he often employed his difficult upbringing as raw material for his heartland narratives. The first decade of his work (in which he stuck to his formula of mostly serious gritty folk) culminated in his masterful 1993 album "Things is Changin'". However, it wasn't until he loosened up his formula in the mid-90's when Eaglesmith really hit stride. He began releasing dynamic albums that hopscotch across musical styles. The best of this era was 1997's "Lipstick, Lies & Gasoline".

The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, founded in 1977 from the Cincinnaty Symphony Orchestra, plays this music under the baton of Erich Kunzel (1935-2009), the 'Prince of Pop'. The CSO has published over a hundred albums, with sales of over ten million copies, and has achieved a Grammy Award in 1998. This work, set on Russia, offers fifteen classic tracks using a repertoire of great masters such as Glinka, Prokofiev, Borodin, Rimsky-Korsakov, Khachaturian, Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky and others.

The German rock band Solar Project was founded in 1988. The music has a small amount of neo mixed with some elements of symphonic and melodic. The result is nice vocals, melodic prog style and heavy rhythms. "World Games" and "The House Of S. Phrenia" albums are marked by Pink Floyd's influence. Solar Project successfully adds a new facet to Nineties neo progressive.

1989's Long Hard Look was the second solo album from Foreigner vocalist Lou Gramm, and its modest success led him to officially – but ultimately briefly – leave the enormously popular band. Long Hard Look is another slice of sleekly professional pop/rock, similar to Gramm's 1987 solo debut, Ready or Not…
