This is in some ways the most revealing of the issues in Brabbin’s Cyril Scott series for Chandos, with works from opposite ends of his long career, the Symphony No 1 of 1899 and the Cello Concerto of 1937. The Symphony is more traditional than Scott’s later symphonies, with its clean-cut thematic material. The Cello Concerto, beautifully played with Paul Watkins as soloist, is in a conventional three movements, with the fast outer movements separated by a reflective Pastoral for unaccompanied cello, before the jolly, sparkling finale.

Joaquim Homs was a Catalonian composer, schooled in Schoenberg's twelve-tone techniques, so one might expect to hear music that shouts "I'm different, I'm learned, respect me!" However, Homs' piano music, particularly as played by Jordi Masó, speaks more for the person who wrote it, rather than for itself. Much of it is atonal and composed following prescribed techniques, but it is at the same time very evocative and emotionally expressive.

After nearly a decade’s wait, fans of “that little ole’ band from Texas,’ ZZ Top, will be rewarded on Sept. 11 with the trio’s 15th album, ‘La Futura.’The ten-song record, co-produced by Rick Rubin and the band’s ever-so-stylish guitarist and singer Billy Gibbons. How’d they get that title? “We thought long and hard about what this album should be,” Gibbons says in a press release. “We wanted to recall the directness of our early stuff but not turn our backs on contemporary technology. The result of this melding of the past and the present is, of course, ‘La Futura.’”

One of the best albums of the great arranger Ray Conniff!!! very nice collection of great songs like the great tune NEVER ON SUNDAY (my favourite), the beautiful songs I'LL WALK ALONE and GIGI, the precious CHANSON DE AMOUR, the powerful rhythms of VOLARE, YELLOW ROSE and MACK THE KNIFE, nice songs like MOULING ROUGE and BLUEBERRY HILL and the Platters classic MY PRAYER… THIS IS THE HAPPY BEAT!!!

Lumpy Gravy, Frank Zappa's first solo album, was released months before the Mothers of Invention's third LP (even though its back cover asked the question: "Is this phase two of We're Only in It for the Money?") and both were conceptualized and recorded at the same time. We're Only in It for the Money became a song-oriented anti-flower power album with one contemporary/musique concrète/sound collage hybrid piece by way of conclusion. Lumpy Gravy collaged bits of orchestral music, sonic manipulations, spoken words, and occasional pop ditties into two lumps of 16 minutes each.

This vintage electronic album sounds like it was taken from the dusty vaults of some 80s studio. Genuine atmosphere takes you back. The small piece of lost sunny golden age of music.

This album is an attempt to combine orchestral music with soundscapes. It can be called psychedelic in some ways. The shape and dynamics of sound worth some special attention as they create otherworld landscapes. All kinds of spectral colours are exercised to piece it together.
