Chandos signed Karen Geoghegan as an exclusive artist in 2007 following her appearance on BBC TV’s Classical Star programme. This is her fifth recording with the label, and the expressive maturity and sensitivity of her playing have quickly cemented her status as a rising star, Gramophone writing: ‘Name five internationally famous bassoon soloists. Archie Camden, Gwydion Brooke and, er, that’s it. Except I think we shall soon be adding the name of Karen Geoghegan to the roll call.’

New York pianist Yvonne Troxler (b. 1962) recently released a CD of her own compositions, titled Brouhaha, featuring her Glass Farm Ensemble. There is a compositional unity on the album that makes each piece feel like an entry in a musical journal. Never really in-your-face, nor too deeply ethereal, the musical gestures that comprise this music have an almost improvisatory feel to them. The timbral variety and tasteful use of space widen sonic expectations, so that you almost don't realize that the new soundscape is in fact an officially different piece.

20 years later the mighty Baphomet from Buffalo NY releases their rarely heard brutal death metal ‘test pressing’ crunchy total speed death recorded in the glory days of the Buffalo Death metal scene.

The nine tracks on Sunken Condos were co-produced by Michael Leonhart and Donald. All but one track, an Ashkenazi recasting of Isaac Hayes' Out of the Ghetto, are new Fagen originals. Some familiar names from the Steely Dan family of players are on hand (Jon Herington, the Steely Dan horns, Freddie Washington) plus some new faces. The word is that, from now on, everything Donald does has got to be funky.

On ISLANDS, Mezzoforte sounds much more acoustic than usual. Instead of the keyboards, the brilliant Eythor Gunnarsson prefers the grand piano more and more. The drums of Gulli Briem sound more "jazzy", Bruno Muller's guitar is funky and smacking in a clubbing style, the wind section uses its space for characteristic solos and Johann Asmundsson keeps the whole thing together with his grooving bass.
