On this live set, Gino chooses songs from eight of his nine previous albums, in addition to one tune from a subsequent release; therefore, he wisely covers his whole career. Included are his three Top 40 hits: "Living Inside Myself," "People Gotta Move" and "I Just Wanna Stop." Gino and his three piece band bring new life to three tunes that were on the lackluster Big Dreamers Never Sleep

Norwegian trumpet player Tine Thing Helseth emerged toward the end of the first decade of the 20th century as of the leading international soloists on her instrument, and in 2011 signed an exclusive recording contract with EMI Classics. For her debut solo album for the label she decided to forego the traditional concertos and virtuosic showpieces and play transcriptions of vocal music, primarily art songs. The result is an appealing collection of music that puts Helseth's lyrical sensibility on display. The pieces don't make the technical demands of, say, a Baroque concerto, but they require the ability to communicate expressively with the simplest means, and that is no less an achievement. Helseth plays with exceptionally well-supported legato phrasing and her tone is sweet, burnished, and mellow…

A collaboration stemming from longtime mutual admiration, Iain Matthews and Elliott Murphy find more than a little common ground on La Terre Commune. With each contributing four songs to covers of Bob Dylan's "Blind Willie McTell," Bruce Springsteen's "Sad Eyes," and Jesse Colin Young's "Darkness, Darkness," the two succeed in creating a seamlessly cohesive song cycle…

When slide guitar specialist James Arnold revamped this number as "Old Original Kokomo Blues" for Decca in 1934, little did he know that this would soon become his permanent handle - Kokomo Arnold.

For all others, the Hubert KaH still regarded as pure NDW formation, know the best opportunity this exceptional artist and appreciate. The silver disc offers a fine showcase, in chronological order, starting with their three NDW hits and the singles of their German Popalbums "Golden Age", including "Solo Tu", a title should actually be released as a single, but then did not happen is.

After a botched attempt at a 'DJ Remix' Best Of and and a disappointing excursion into disco tack, the Pulp Fusion series is reassuringly back on form with two cds worth of hard-as-nails soul, funk & jazz grooves from the golden age of black music. Compiled by New York DJ Monk One (don't worry, I'd never heard of him before either) the tunes are what you would expect on a Pulp Fusion compilation - tough, intense, often obscure, and sometimes uncompromising. If you're not familiar with the Pulp Fusion series I might start with an earlier volume, but if you are already a fan you'll be pleased that things are back to normal. ~Amazon

In 2004 when Polly Paulusma released her first album 'Scissors In My Pocket' on indie label One Little Indian, Derek Birkett suggested that she create a sister-album, a companion record, containing alternative versions of all the songs on the main album, live versions and different renderings. With this in mind she created 'Cosmic Rosy Spine Kites' (the name is almost an anagram of 'Scissors In My Pocket'. In 2007 Paulusma did the same again, creating an acoustic alterno-version of her very electric main record 'Fingers & Thumbs' - 'Fights & Numbers' is available as a digital download.

Il Sant’Alessio began life in the tradition of Jesuit school plays, designed to emphasize the spiritual courage of saints. Cardinal Francesco Barberini and his brother, Taddeo, Prince Prefect of Rome, decided to put on one of these in a private showing at their splendid new family palace. They wanted to utilize the new musical form built around the heightened recitative style, what we would now call opera…
