The B-52s performed their first ever gig on Valentine's Day in 1977. And 34 years later, in February 2011, they returned to their hometown of Athens, GA to celebrate with this brilliant live show. Wig-wearing, boa-draped, glitter-covered fans came from near and far to see the band deliver a sizzling set that turned Athens' Classic Center into a cosmic dancehall. A B-52s live show is always the best party in town, yet here in front of their home crowd they turned it up a notch higher.

B.J. Thomas (born Billy Joe Thomas) straddled the line between pop/rock and country, achieving success in both genres in the late '60s and '70s. At the beginning of his career, he leaned more heavily on rock & roll, but by the mid-'70s, he had turned to country music, becoming one of the most successful country-pop stars of the decade.

This is an excellent single CD collection of his tunes.

    MP3 CBR 320 kbps | 12 Tracks | 48:52 | 116 MB
Genre: Blues, Soul | Label: Shake-It-Sugar Records

A blues record dripping with soulful guitar licks, smooth vocals, and sweet horns, Restless Mind is the latest release from soul-blues guitarist/singer/songwriter Murali Coryell. This is Coryell’s first studio record since his 2009 release, Shake it, Sugar, and it is safe to say that this was a product worth waiting for. While the record starts off a little bit slow – the first three tracks are not Coryell’s greatest work – the quality of music picks up significantly with “I’m So Happy,” and lasts right up until the last shout on a fantastic cover of Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On”…

Both critically acclaimed and the best-selling newly recorded album for Delmark in recent times, 2012's Been There Done That put Linsey Alexander in the blues spotlight. "Throughout Alexander sings with a conviction and verve that few can equal. This should be his break-out recording." Gary von Tersch, Big City Rhythm & Blues Similar to the first album, Come Back Baby is full of delightful new originals including "Little Bit of Soap", "Booty Call", "Call My Wife", "Things Done Changed", "Too Old To Be A New Fool" and the title track. Once again Linsey led his nine-piece band live in the studio with special guest Billy Branch on harmonica.

Creating a CD, at least comparable to our 2013 ZOHO release New York Minute was a definite challenge. The worldwide reviews were all extremely complimentary and our challenge was what would we do for an encore. I contacted harmonica extraordinaire Jason Ricci who was a featured artist on New York Minute and he was very willing to participate on a new project. That alone gave me great incentive and a basis to create another smokin' recording. Bob Callahan, Bobby Torello and I wrote some new material and chose some tasteful covers that we believe are expressive of our musical spectrum from early delta style music to high energy blues rock, but performed with our individual enthusiasm and piquancy. We are not your typical Snooze Blues band nor do we want to be. If you like blues that is repetitious and holds on to one guitar note for 10 seconds this record may not be for you.

Jo Hell started playing in bars in the Montreal (Canada) area at the age of 16. After two years of playing jam nights seven nights a week, Jo Hell decided to start his own band, which he names "Jo Hell & The Red Roosters". As the years went by, the number of shows increased and the demand for the band became more and more obvious. They appeared at several festivals and the local popularity of the band began to shoot to the top. Many articles in the local newspapers, their appearances at local radio stations and television, as well as on numerous websites confirm the charisma of the band. "Jo Hell & The Red Roosters" came to Austin for "SXSW" in March of 2006. They graced the stage of Nuno's on 6th and were promptly featured at the "Red, White and Blues Festival" at "Waterloo Park" in July of 2006. Since that time the Jo Hell band has recorded 3 new albums: "Jo Hell" (self-titled) (2008), "Live At The Pjeireblues" (2011) and the newest - "Rockin' Land" (2013).

"Fatter Than Ever" features fifteen standout tracks courtesy of Canada's premiere Blues song writers, Al Lerman and Omar Tunnoch. With nine critically albums released to date and hundreds (thousands?) of crowd pleasing shows under their belts, it has become quite evident that Fathead may be the best blues /roots band to come out of Canada since Ronnie Hawkins hired THE BAND to become his backup group in the mid-1950s. An ultra-tight ensemble, Fathead brings together some of the most respected musicians in the country to create an energetic blend of blues peppered liberally with elements of r&b, funky, gospel-tinged soul and "feel good" rock'n'roll. Real Blues magazine referred to the group's harp and guitar-dominated sound as "one of those rare, much sought after, but seldom achieved, chemical/spiritual reactions that happens when all the right ingredients come together: talent, personality, humour, united vision and a little bit of hoodoo/voodoo". "The Toronto Star" praised Fathead when it commented, "If the blues were a sports league, Fathead would be the equivalent of an all-star team".

Shakatak have enjoyed a level of success and career longevity rarely paralleled in contemporary music. They are the Rolling Stones of Jazz-funk and their music just keeps getting better and better. After the success of their last release ‘Once Upon A Time’, a one-off project that saw the band re-arrange their classic hits into acoustic versions, Shakatak are back with a newly recorded studio album containing 12 new tracks.

In 1970, expatriate pianist Memphis Slim hooked up with fellow Chicago blues great Buddy Guy while the guitarist was touring Europe with the Rolling Stones, and recorded the tracks for South Side Reunion, originally released on Warner Bros. in 1972. Slim's rollicking piano and Guy's guitar-slinging prowess are complemented by Windy City musicians Phillip Guy, Ernest Johnson, and Roosevelt Shaw, plus saxophonists A.C. Reed and Jimmy Conley. While harpist Junior Wells (who was also part of the Stones tour) is listed as if he played a prominent role in this endeavor, he's only heard on the tracks "Good Time Charlie," "No," and "Help Me Some." Both casual listeners and collectors will want to check this out, if only for the two takes of Slim's solo harpsichord jam "Ain't Nothing But a Texas Boogie on a Harpsichord." ~Allmusic

Released on Finest Gramophone on August 25th, Tina Dico's new album Whispers had a very different inception to Dico's previous recorded works. Her themes are universal. Love, loss and its repercussions, apology and repentance. Someone You Love, the first song to be showcased from the album is a song about the latter – "At times I've held back, I've see now what it means to give yourself unconditionally – to someone you love." Dico's current home in Iceland with its stunning and unique landscapes provides further inspiration. Of Drifting, a forthcoming single, she says - "I live by the ocean now, it's the first thing I see in the morning.

Leo Sayer is quite an enigma. Mention his name today in most music discussions, and people look at you like you've lost your mind. Of course, anything you say after that is not likely to be taken seriously, and your friends will never let you forget it. What they probably don't know, however, is that there was a time when Leo Sayer was a very popular artist, and when you listen to the man himself rattle off the list of names he has worked with, you begin to understand that his musical influence and success is a lot greater than he is given credit for.

    Label: Verve | Rel: 1994

A compilation of live recordings from the late '50s and mid '60s, this disc reveals a lesser-known side of the Duke. Loose and highly energetic in both structure and execution, these tracks show that even in mid-century Ellington was still keeping apace with musical developments. Particularly intriguing is his foray into modal jazz with "La Plus Belle Africaine," a 14-minute atmospheric journey full of stark, tribal rhythms and snaking melody lines. Ellington here seems to have loosened the formality of his earlier bandleading, replacing it with a wilder approach, powerful dynamics, and shouts and banter between the bandmembers.

Mark Whitfield has long had an attractive tone, and his melodic style is in the forefront throughout this fairly varied date. Accompanied by a 21-piece string orchestra arranged by Dale Oehler, Whitfield and his quartet mostly stick to standards. Fortunately, tempos are varied (although there are a few sleepy ballads) and Diana Krall has guest vocals on "Some Other Time" and "Early Autumn." The strings generally do not add much, but Whitfield's inventive playing makes this a recommended set anyway. Highlights include "You Don't Know What Love Is," "My One And Only Love," an accompanied guitar feature on "I Want To Talk About You" and Whitfield's "Forever."
