Fearsomely talented Swedish clarinetist Martin Fröst continues his conquest of the major concerto repertoire for his instrument with this recording of Carl Nielsen's 1928 Clarinet Concerto, paired with a new concerto by Finland's Kalevi Aho. The Nielsen concerto is a dense work in which the clarinet and the orchestra spend a lot of time going their separate ways, with the path of the clarinet being very twisted indeed. Kalevi Aho is one of Finland's leading symphonists, having written 11 works in that genre. He studied composition with noted symphonist Einojuhani Rautavaara at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and then later with composer Boris Blacher in Berlin (1971 - 1972). Formed in 1980, English band Solstice is first and foremost the band project of Andy Glass (guitar), the only musician participating on all the band's productions and the main composer for the band in it's various guises.
