A New Orleans shuffle and plenty of traditional swing bring Jeff Barone’s debut CD into focus as a jazz guitar celebration. Echoes of Wes Montgomery and Grant Green reverberate in quartet format, as Barone works with piano, bass and drums to interpret classic tunes and several original compositions…
Excellent and very logical pairing of two classic LPs on one CD – both were recorded in concert and feature the group in good form, singing beautifully and presenting generally light-hearted folk standards ("Winken, Blinken & Nod," etc.), along with the group's one big hit, "Greenfields," in what is probably its best released version. A fond and spirited look back at folk music as entertainment, and potentially a far more rewarding look at the group than either its greatest-hits or best-of compilations.
This issue is not a legitimate release and it is an Asia only issue. The mastering on this is different than the other Lobo CDs I have shared and this one has some tracks on it not found the others. I like this CD and recommend it to those that like Lobo even if you have the other CDs.
Kylyn is a 1979 fusion album by Kazumi Watanabe (actually released as an eponymous album by "Kylyn"). It was released in June 1979, whilst the recording sessions took place between April and May. Kylyn was also the name of Watanabe's group at the time, and at times it featured fellow Ryuichi Sakamoto on synths and keyboards. Sakamoto and Watanabe did work together for the album Tokyo Joe released the previous year.
Seven is the 7th studio album by American rock band Enuff Z'Nuff, which was originally released in Japan as ‘Brothers’ under the band name "Chip & Donnie" in 1994. Seven was initially intended to form one half of a double-album for the Japanese market, paired with the record that would eventually become the album Tweaked. The sessions were split into two separate discs, with the pop sounding ‘Brothers’ LP getting re-branded as an Enuff Z'nuff album in 1997 for its stateside release. As well as the re-titling and new artwork, Seven contains two bonus tracks not available on the original ‘Brothers’ disc.
Delirium is an important band in the history of Italian progressive rock music, having been active since 1970. They originally formed in Genoa during the late 1960s as I Sagittari and their line-up consisted of Ettore Vigo (keyboards), Peppino Di Santo (drums, vocals), Mimmo Di Martino (acoustic guitar) and Marcello Reale (bass). The later arrival of Ivano Fossati (vocals, keyboards, flute) completed the band, whose early musical style was a mix of the so-called Italian melodic tradition and UK progressive influences, in particular King Crimson and Colosseum. This live album, "Vibrazioni Notturne", was recorded in 2006 and "captures" a performance in Trento…
Al Green fans will be aware that The Immortal Soul of Al Green actually marks the second time that a four-CD box set of Green's recordings has been assembled, following by seven years its predecessor, Anthology. That being the case, the obvious question is, why do listeners need another Al Green box set? The answer lies in the two conflicting approaches most often employed in box sets. Basically, two different audiences buy box sets: first, those who are looking for a single, omnibus collection of an artist's recordings that is more comprehensive that a "greatest-hits" album; and second, collectors who already have all the hits and are looking for rarities and unreleased material.
