Steve Tibbetts is a difficult artist to categorize. While the German-based ECM was (at one time) the home of jazz guitarists Pat Metheny, John Abercrombie and Ralph Towner, Tibbetts' music seems more a product of Jimi Hendrix and Frank Zappa than Jim Hall or Wes Montgomery. Throw into the mix the wordless vocals on some tracks and the use of tabla and synthesizer, and Tibbetts and the other musicians on this CD produce some powerful music–not to mention amazing guitar pyrotechnics from Tibbetts himself.

Eagle Rock Entertainment has just released a DVD of Lindsey Buckingham's Songs From the Small Machine: Live In L.A., which was filmed in high-definition with DTS Surround-Sound, Dolby Digital 5.1, and Dolby Digital Stereo at The Saban Theater in Beverly Hills, California in April 2011. The two-hour, 19-song show will be released on DVD, Blu-ray. Filled with his most beloved songs, including such Fleetwood Mac classics as "Go Your Own Way," "Second Hand News," "Big Love," "Tusk," "I'm So Afraid" and "Never Going Back Again," blended with material from his new album Seeds We Sow, such as "In Our Own Time," "Illumination," "Stars Are Crazy," "That's the Way Love Goes." The DVD and Blu-ray also feature a Buckingham interview. Songs From the Small Machine: Live In L.A. opens with a solo acoustic set that accentuate Buckingham's nimble fretwork and multidimensional voice.

Even if the performances on Intensity weren't excellent, this Charles Earland session would be required listening for jazz historians because it marked the last recorded documentation of Lee Morgan. Only two days after Intensity was recorded at Rudy Van Gelder's famous New Jersey studio on February 17, 1972, the influential trumpeter was shot and killed by a girlfriend at the age of 33. Refusing to confine himself to hard bop, Morgan was exploring soul-jazz and fusion during the last years of his life – and his enthusiasm for soul-jazz is hard to miss on Earland's funky "'Cause I Love Her" as well as inventive interpretations of Chicago's "Happy 'Cause I'm Goin' Home" and the Shirelles' "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow."

First three tracks of this album are from legendary pianist/composer/theorist Thelonios Monk; with Thad Jones on trumpet and Charlie Rouse on tenor saxophone. And the last two tracks are from drummer Max Roach; with Stanley Turrentine on tenor saxophone, Tommy Turrentine on trumpet, and Julian Priester on trombone. Although Monk and Roach doesn't perform together in any track; this album can be recommended to the collectors; because of the great names, and also for the DENON label.

With such great songs as Fishing in the dark (a number one country hit) and Baby's got a hold on me (from which derives the album title), this album shows the boys in fine form.On this album, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band demonstrate their ability to perform upbeat, fun songs including the two already mentioned as well as Angelyne, Keeping the road hot and Oh what a love, all of which are brilliant….
