In the world of early rhythm & blues and doo wop, Hank Ballard was the very definition of earthiness. Though influenced by high-energy gospel vocal groups, Ballard's music with the Midnighters couldn't have been more diametrically opposed in terms of subject matter: his lyrics were filled with raunchy double-entendres that left little to the imagination, pushing the envelope of what was considered acceptable in the '50s.

While never having a run of hits, the Channels were among the most popular East Coast doo wop ensembles. Larry Hampden, Billy Morris, and Edward Doulphin were charter members of the Channels, who formed in 1955. They started with two part-time members, but then absorbed lead vocalist Earl Michael Lewis and Clifton Wright from the Lotharios. Lewis became their principal songwriter and he penned their best-known hit, "The Closer You Are."

CD released in Spain in 1993 with the unique and splendid performance of the "English Chamber Orchestra" directed by the great Spanish conductor Enrique Garcia Asensio. Under his baton the ECO expert develops a repertoire of ten 'pasodobles' symphony orchestred, among which are undoubtedly some of the most famous of the genre's history.

Benson's blazing solos on these songs reminds listeners why he is so worshipped by fans and fellow guitarists worldwide.
