Niacin showed a great deal of promise on its self-titled debut album of 1996, and there were no signs of the infamous sophomore slump on the fusion trio's second album, High Bias. Recalling the '70s experiments of John McLaughlin's Mahavishnu Orchestra, Return to Forever and the Billy Cobham/George Duke Band, this exciting CD served as a reminder that the freedom of jazz and the intensity of rock can complement one another in a major way.

Rare Surf, Vol. 6, contains almost no surf records at all, save for the lead track, Don Hinson's "Monster Surf Stomp." What it does contain, though, are a bunch of rare hot rod songs from the vault of Capitol Records and some pop stuff from the same era (early '60s). Most of the tracks are fairly generic, although if you're into the car-song genre, then this disc is a treasure trove. Highlights include a pair of barroom saxophone instrumentals ("Cruisin'," "When Johnny Comes Slidin' Home") by the Hollywood Vines and Sharon Marie's brisk run-through of the Gershwin chestnut "Summertime". Also included is one of Brian Wilson's most elaborate early productions, "Guess I'm Dumb," sung by Glen Campbell.

L.A. Guns' most consistent and effective album, Cocked & Loaded manages to balance the underlying darkness of Guns N' Roses' urban outlook with Mötley Crüe's party-anthem glam metal. The songwriting is among their best; "Never Enough" was successful on MTV, and "The Ballad of Jayne," a tribute to actress Jayne Mansfield, was a Top 40 hit.

Nancy Wilson's unimpeachable combination of high sophistication and artistic substance was tailor-made for entertaining both the high-rollers and rubber-neckers assembled at the Sands Hotel & Casino's Copa Room for this August 1968 performance. She began with a delightful tweak of any star-gazers in the room, dedicating the opener to a "specific" (but unspecified) group in attendance at the show, then launching into a bustling version of "Hello, Young Lovers."

Astral Winter was formed in the Winter of 2008 as a Solo project by Josh Young.In 2009 vocalist Phil Hemsworth joined the band as the vocalist leaving all the instruments and composition to Josh.In early 2010 Astral Winter started work on their first full length album "Winter Enthroned".
