2011 marked the 30th anniversary of Acoustic Alchemy; it was back in 1981 that Simon James and the late Nick Webb, Acoustic Alchemy's original co-leaders, started working together. These days, Acoustic Alchemy have two different co-leaders: Greg Carmichael and Miles Gilderdale. But even though James left in the mid-'80s and Webb died in 1998, the basic idea for the group has remained: two acoustic guitarists up front playing a light, unassuming mixture of jazz and pop.

In the early '60s, nobody made noisier, crazier sounding rock & roll party records than Gary "U.S." Bonds, with records rife with massive amounts of echo and good times galore. The big hits are here: "Quarter to Three," "New Orleans," "School Is In," "School Is Out" (although the last two are missing the spoken intros that graced the original singles), "Dear Lady Twist," "Twist Twist Senora," and "Not Me."

Digitally remastered and expanded two CD edition of the British band's 1986 album including a bonus disc featuring alternate, extended and live tracks. U-Vox was their eighth full album and the fifth of the band's most-recognizable incarnation, fronted by Midge Ure. It was also the last Ultravox album to reach the Top 10 in the UK Album Chart. Following the departure of original drummer Warren Cann, U Vox featured his replacement: Mark Brzezicki from Big Country. The sound moved away from the Electronic sound of earlier recordings and some unusual instrumentation was used, such as the Celtic sound of "All Fall Down" with instrumentation by The Chieftains. The album's final track, "All in One Day", was arranged and conducted by George Martin. U-Vox was the last Ultravox album with Midge Ure before the band split in 1988.

Elements - The Best of Mike Oldfield is a video collection by Mike Oldfield released in October 1993. It was released by Virgin Records on VHS and Laser disc. A DVD edition of the video release, including additional extras, was produced in 2004.

Singer/harpist Darrell Nulisch returns to the soul-blues he's best known for after 2007's more bluesy Goin Back to Dallas. His fifth release for the Severn imprint is a typically tasty set given a comfy, homey feel likely due to Nulisch once again working with longtime veteran sidemen such as guitarist Johnny Moeller, bassist Steve Gomes, and drummer Rob Stupka. Like Robert Cray, Nulisch is generally incorrectly pigeonholed as a blues singer when really he's a soul man more in line with '60s R&B greats like O.V. Wright, Otis Clay, and James Carr….

Most listeners will be satisfied with the excellent Jimmy Buffett summary Songs You Know By Heart, but anyone that wants to dig deeper should bypass the albums (there are several that are first-rate, yet many are spotty) and pick up the four-disc, 72-track box set…

Compilation album including a dozen of famous creations by the American pianist and composer Burt Bacharach. The CD is performed by The Countdown Orchestra which makes their own arrangements for this recording.

Altoist Art Pepper recorded many albums for the Galaxy label during 1979-1982, all of which have been reissued in a massive 16-CD "complete" box set. This single CD is pretty definitive and serves as a perfect introduction to Pepper's second (and most rewarding) period. Not only is there a superior version of Pepper's famous title cut but very emotional (and explorative) renditions of "September Song" and "Nature Boy." Filling out this quartet set (which also features pianist Tommy Flanagan, bassist Red Mitchell, and drummer Billy Higgins) are "Surf Ride," "Make a List," and "Long Ago and Far Away." Brilliant music.
