The legendary Brenda Lee's first two LPs recorded for US Decca when she was just 15 and 16, are paired (in stereo) on this CD. "Grandma, What Great Songs You Sang!" was a largely experimental set comprising songs from an earlier age. "Miss Dynamite" (known simply as "Brenda Lee" in the USA) shows how quickly she was able to establish her own recording persona given the right material. Both LP were produced by Owen Bradley and this 2 on 1 CD reissue has been mastered from the original stereo recordings.

Bridging the era between late-'50s rock and the British Invasion, Dion DiMucci (born July 18, 1939) was one of the top white rock singers of his time, blending the best elements of doo wop, teen idol, and R&B styles. Some revisionists have tried to cast him as a sort of early blue-eyed soul figure, although he was probably more aligned with pop/rock, at first as the lead singer of the Belmonts, and then as a solo star. Drug problems slowed him down in the mid-'60s, yet he made some surprisingly interesting progressions into blues-rock and folk-rock as the decade wore on, culminating in a successful comeback in the late '60s, although he was unable to sustain its commercial and artistic momentum for long.

Justly worshipped a decade and a half after his death as a founding father of New Orleans R&B, Roy "Professor Longhair" Byrd was nevertheless so down-and-out at one point in his long career that he was reduced to sweeping the floors in a record shop that once could have moved his platters by the boxful. That Longhair made such a marvelous comeback testifies to the resiliency of this late legend, whose Latin-tinged rhumba-rocking piano style and croaking, yodeling vocals were as singular and spicy as the second-line beats that power his hometown's musical heartbeat. Longhair brought an irresistible Caribbean feel to his playing, full of rolling flourishes that every Crescent City ivories man had to learn inside out (Fats Domino, Huey Smith, and Allen Toussaint all paid homage early and often).

Planet Earth Rock and Roll Orchestra is an album by Paul Kantner, and his last solo studio album. The title comes from an unofficial name for San Francisco artists who recorded on various albums in 1970–1973, also known as PERRO. The song "Mountain Song" is dedicated "to David C, Jerry G, Graham N, Grace S, David F, Billy K and Mickey H and to one summer when all of our schedules almost didn't conflict," and was written during the 70's recording sessions by Kantner and Jerry Garcia. The album collects various Starship/Airplane alumni to front an extended trip musically similar to his then recent, Starship efforts. One track, "Circle of Fire" was recorded originally for the Jefferson Starship album, Winds of Change.

The song is notable in that it is in 6/8 swing time, like Led Zeppelin's "Four Sticks".

Frank Sinatra was arguably the most important popular music figure of the 20th century, his only real rivals for the title being Bing Crosby, Elvis Presley, and the Beatles. In a professional career that lasted 60 years, he demonstrated a remarkable ability to maintain his appeal and pursue his musical goals despite often countervailing trends. He came to the fore during the swing era of the 1930s and '40s, helped to define the "sing era" of the '40s and '50s, and continued to attract listeners during the rock era that began in the mid-'50s. He scored his first number one hit in 1940 and was still making million-selling recordings in 1994. This popularity was a mark of his success at singing and promoting the American popular song as it was written, particularly in the 1920s, '30s, and '40s…

The early 1960s was a thrilling time in music, the sound of pop, rock n roll & vocal harmony groups dominated radio & the charts getting parties everywhere in full swing! This superb collection gathers the most memorable party songs from this era. Like most life summaries, this Marv Johnson biography is a linear, birth-to-death account and, by merely existing, deems its subject worth remembering. "You Got What It Takes" is a 1959 single by Marv Johnson. In the US it reached #2 on the Black Singles chart, and #10 on the Billboard Hot 100. Duane Eddy is an American guitarist. In the late 1950s and early 1960s he had a string of hit records produced by Lee Hazlewood which were noted for their characteristically "twangy" sound, including "Rebel Rouser", "Peter Gunn", and "Because They're Young".

Toward the end of his career, Duke Ellington found himself filling up his calendar when home in New York City with a residence at the famous Rainbow Room at Rockefeller Plaza. This afforded fans to hear a scaled-down version of his Big Band in the form of an Octet, plus occasional added vocalists. On this album we present a rare stereo recording of Duke's Rainbow Room Octet as they were captured playing a private party in New Jersey during the summer of 1968. This is one of only perhaps two issued live recordings of this rare instrumentation, featuring some of Ellington's great sidemen such as Johnny Hodges, Lawrence Brown, Paul Gonsalves…

Before Adele and Amy, there was Lulu. Now she’s back. Britain’s first great female rock and soul voice has made the album of her career. This is no hyperbole. Hearing is believing. Making Life Rhyme is the first album which Lulu has written for herself, a deep, rich, emotional, autobiographical stew of musical flavours, harking back to the raw groove of her classic 1965 debut.

Wait a minute, why are you reviewing the score you reviewed last year you might ask. Well, turns out, this is a new expanded 2CD version called The Rogue Cut released by Sony. So what is The Rogue Cut? Well it’s a new version with 10 additional minutes of film. Well, the 10 additional minutes of film apparently warranted a new expanded score and that to me is a complete and utterly positive surprise. Usually we’ll have to wait years before some expanded version might arrive, but someone thought differently and that person is now my hero. More of this please! It so happens I quite liked the original score which was quite lengthy in itself at 69 minutes. The Rogue Cut expands on that by 42 minutes, which is no small feat. So what is different? Well, some cues are split up. For example, ‘The Future – Main Titles’ from the original score is now split in two so you can hear both cues separately. I love it! There are some brand new cues like ‘Xavier’s Plan’, ‘Trask Hearing / A New Era’, ‘Clothes Off / Goodbye Peter’ and a bunch of others. So this is exciting! Let’s see what The Rogue Cut has in store for us.

Exhibiting modestly more complex textures and less twang than his 2014 debut, Ledges, Noah Gundersen's second full-length album, Carry the Ghost, offers an increase in personnel and mixing by Phil Ek (Father John Misty, Guster), resulting in a slightly edgier, more indie folk-sounding landscape.
