Jasper Somsen, a talented jazz bassist and composer from the Netherlands, has worked with Enrico Pieranunzi, Ferdinand Povel, Rita Reys and Nancy Marano among others, performing regularly throughout Europe. He put together his current quintet in 2009. The Jasper Somsen Group consists of Bert Lochs on trumpet and flugelhorn, guitarist Florian Zenker, pianist Tilmar Junius, and drummer Pieter Bast plus the leader. They recorded their debut Dreams, Thoughts and Poetry a few years ago for the Challenge label.

The recent CD of the Fred Hersch Trio is characterized by a nearly incredible density of harmonic and rhythmic ideas. This is the result not only of a perfect match between the musicians. It's Fred Hersch, who is extraordinary brillant - one might say: more than ever before. In contrast to other productions, this CD contains none of the Fred Hersch-compositions. The performance is "only" based on Standards out of the Great American Songbook - the reason may be, that this production is exclusively made for the Japanese Market.

This album is a perfect example of the quality of big band jazz Max Greger could achieve. When he was offered a job as Musical Director for Germany's second television channel in the early sixties, Max Greger’s ambition was to have the best big band in Europe. This recording from 1965 clearly demonstrates that he wasn’t far from reaching his goal. Count Basie himself stated that the Max Greger Orchestra was the best European band he'd ever heard.

As both composer and teacher Heino Eller (1887–1970) was one of the founders of the classical tradition in his native Estonia. Yet his copious output for piano – some 200 works – is largely unknown, an omission this series of seven CDs seeks to redress. The central works of Volume Three are the Ten Lyric Pieces, mirroring the tragic loss of Eller’s Jewish wife, murdered during the Nazi occupation, and Fourth Sonata, a late masterpiece that sums up a life’s work. The three Studies here offer a glimpse of Eller’s early virtuosic pursuits, and the five Preludes showcase his endeavours in an expressionist idiom.

Valensia's second album "Valensia II" (also known as "K.O.S.M.O.S.") was the first Dutch surround sound CD ever made. It was, again, a success in Japan, but his Dutch record company didn't want to promote it. Due to this fact, it received less attention than it perhaps deserved in the Netherlands. K.O.S.M.O.S (Valensia often refers to it as "Costmost") was the most expensive album in the history of the Netherlands.

Playing amplified blues-rock has not been a problem for Fiona Boyes, but the flexible singer/guitarist is equally proficient when it comes to providing acoustic blues – and that is exactly what she does on Live from Bluesville. In fact, Boyes plays acoustic blues exclusively on this 48-minute CD, which finds her forming an intimate trio with Tom "Mookie" Brill (lead vocals, acoustic bass, harmonica) and Rich DelGrosso (lead vocals, mandolin). Contrary to what the title suggests, this isn't a live album in the conventional sense; Live from Bluesville wasn't recorded in a club or theater in front of an audience, but rather in a Washington, D.C., studio in 2007…..

Comecon was a Swedish death metal project founded in 1990. The band consisted of two guitarists, a drum computer and a session singer; a different one on each album. The debut album featured the Swede Lars Göran Petrov, who was then dismissed from Entombed. Their second album was sung by Dutchman Martin van Drunen (Pestilence, Asphyx). German Marc Grewe, from Morgoth handled the vocals on their final album. All three albums were produced by Tomas Skogsberg.
