This compilation features more cool metal bands from Noise Records, just like the first Doomsday News compilation. Some of the songs are technical (from Watchtower, Midas Touch and Deathrow), filled with intricate rhythms and time changes…
The “Somewhere” in which the ‘Standards’ trio find themselves is Lucerne, Switzerland with a performance both exploratory and in-the-tradition. The Neue Zürcher Zeitung headlined its review of the show “kontrollierte Ekstase” – controlled ecstasy – an apt metaphor for a set that begins in improvisational “Deep Space” modulates into Miles Davis’ “Solar”, soars through the standards “Stars Fell On Alabama” and “Between The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea” and climaxes with an extended romp through West Side Story, as Bernstein’s “Somewhere” and “Tonight” are bridged by the freely associative Jarrett original “Everywhere”.
Hope in Hell is the upcoming fifteenth studio album by Canadian heavy metal band Anvil, excluding live and compilations. So Anvil are proud to present the kind of album that Anvil fans will love: no concessions to short-lived trends, no modern frills but traditional metal with lots of classic rock music elements. “What we do is totally timeless,” says Anvil’s frontman. “We’ve never tried to change our sound or experiment with trends and fashions. We live in our own world and have maintained our individuality and own identity.” Like Juggernaut Of Justice, Hope In Hell was produced by Bob Marlette (Black Sabbath, Airbourne, Alice Cooper) at the NRG Recording studios in North Hollywood, California, and brilliantly mastered by Maor Appelbaum (Malmsteen, Sepultura). These are the first cuts featuring Anvil‘s new bassist Sal Italiano, who joined the band a year ago. “We’re really happy with Sal, his style is powerful and amazingly imaginative. It’s a little as if we’d enlisted Steve Harris,” enthuses Steve ‘Lips’ Kudlow, who composed the whole album together with drums legend Robb Reiner.
"Sol austan, Mani vestan" is the 11th album from Burzum and a return to a purely electronic and instrumental expression. "Sol austan, Mani vestan" is different from all the older albums, and yet similar to all of them, and is in style more than anything similar to the oldest ambient music of Burzum, like the tracks "Tomhet", "Han som reiste" and "Channelling the power of Minds into a new God". "Sol austan, Mani vestan" is inspired by and made for the "ForeBears" movie by Marie Cachet and Varg Vikernes, where much of the Scaldic music from "Sol austan, Mani vestan" appears, only in unmastered form, as a soundtrack. Burzum says of the new album: "Sol austan, Mani vestan" will feature almost an hour of instrumental electronic music, that can best be described as relaxing, slow-paced, contemplative and very much original. And of the concept Burzum says; I have still not been able to leave behind the Pagan religious-spiritual concept of a descent into darkness and the following ascend back into the light; the Pagan initiation, the elevation of man to the divine, the enlightenment of the mind, the feeding of the elven light in man.

Kasey Chambers has a dozen years on Taylor Swift – hell, she could have been an influence – but since the Pennsylvania girl took over the world, Chambers landed on the "you may also like" list. Not that that's a bad thing, though, as the ladies share the same brand of streamlined country-pop that sounds universal enough to appeal to romantic music aficionados anywhere in the world, but without losing that American vibe that Chambers creates no less skillfully for being an Australian…..
Gary Allan's fourth album honors traditional honky tonk and American music without dripping into the sentimentality that bogs down so many of his contemporaries. The singing is better here than on anything he's ever done, and the song selection – ranging from a Todd Snider cover to a nice Bruce Robison-penned closer called "What Would Willie Do" – is sharp and smart. Alright Guy presents a look at country music that bucks tradition while keeping the faith.–by Michael Gallucci
