Los Lobos are often referred to as one of music's best kept secrets. Although garnering significant critical acclaim, decent album sales, and a devoted fan base who turn out in droves for every tour, the band never really reached the superstar status of some of the artists, like Stevie Ray Vaughan and Melissa Etheridge, who have opened for them in the past. This might be due to the fact that the band's music is so damn eclectic and hard to categorize. It draws equally from rock, Tex-Mex, country, R&B, blues, and traditional Mexican folk influences. As I watched this performance I was reminded of Santana, Cream, ZZ-Top, and The Allman Brothers all within the span of about four songs. This DVD commemorates Los Lobos' thirty year anniversary as a band, and twenty years since the release of their first full length album How Will The Wolf Survive.

When CURVED AIR fell apart in 1972-1973 Darryl Way formed a new band called WOLF or DARRYL WAY'S WOLF who carried on much in the same style as CURVED AIR. The band compromised of Darryl Way (naturally) on violin and keyboards, Ian Mosley on drums (later to be in TRACE, STEVE HACKETT's band and of course MARILLION), John Etheridge on guitar (later to be a member of SOFT MACHINE) and Dek Messacar on bass (later to be a member of CARAVAN)…

Most of the selections on this CD, the third from John Santos' Machete Ensemble, are from 1998-1999, but there are also four cuts from 1989-1990. Ranging from Latin bop (including "Tin Tin Deo," "Moose the Mooche," and "Salt Peanuts") and folkloric chant pieces to Latinized versions of Miles Davis' "So What" and John Coltrane's "Syeeda's Song Flute," the music is continually intriguing and inspiring.

Reissued 1980 album. Released in 1980 following his departure from Uriah Heep this was Hensley's third solo LP and featured contributions from the likes of Kenny Jones and Ian Paice. Unusually for Hensley 'Free Spirit' contained two singles, 'The System' and 'No More', and also came with lyrics to all the songs.
